We had a last minute break in the Netherlands last week, unfortunately taking a dull car for the journey for family reasons. However, while driving to Amsterdam last Friday morning (23rd) we spotted a couple of classics on/in trailers which all came off at a particular junction of the motorway. Some Googling by Mrs_Seth later and it transpired that that weekend was the annual big Dutch Concours event which has been at Paleis Het Loo for many years but had moved to a new venue, Paleis Soestdijk. We had plans for the weekend that we couldn't totally change but actually Soestdijk wasn't that far off our route on Sunday afternoon so we made a little detour in case there was something to see, and perhaps watch some cars leaving the event.
As we neared, the volume of interesting cars coming the other way certainly increased.
Driving past the venue to find somewhere to stop I snapped out the window.
There had been a 'classics only' car park and it had clearly attracted a huge number of vehicles but by the time we had got there the show was clearly over and quite a few of the concours cars were also being driven away. I had about 10 minutes to sit by the roadside and snap some photos and this is what I saw!
Lovely little Facel.
SUAVE 404.
This Spitfire kept cruising past in all directions!
Not a bad little traffic queue.
Oh my! Anyone humming the Cannonball Run theme?
The driver 'gave it some beans' as he drove up the duel carriageway....
We'd seen an ALpine dealer just a few hundred metres away as we parked adn I think they'd provided several new cars for the show but the original was tiny in comparison.
I think we were lucky with the timing that I captured all of those in just 10 minutes. As we drove away we saw another pretty good line of traffic.
Part two of the automotive holiday bits to come, mostly a return visit to the Louwman Museum which had put on a special exhibition of micro cars.
