So we thought we'd take in the Brighton speed trials at the beginning of September, and since my nephew lives in Shoreham, drive to his, and all get the train across to save parking, which was nonexistent last time I went. It's 160 miles each way from Norfolk, so I thought I might day insure my 24yo son on the P38 diesel electronic time bomb. Two quotes, one of £29, one£35, but with £2k+ excess!! Not having done this before,is this normal?

If you approach it by not expecting them to pay out on anything if needed then you might find the fee worth considering or not depending on what you intend to use it for, it just gets you on the Motor Insurance Database for the day basically.
You'd probably get better service by sticking him on your insurance for 7 days tbh.

I have used "Jaunt" recently, the Excess was just a normal amount, say £200ish, but I guess that will go up for a younger driver as the risk is bigger [in their eyes]

Seems the usual price to me tbh. I paid more to bring my 205 back home last week and I’m older.

The price I can understand, it's the excess of £2600,in one case, that amazed me, I know insurance is a con anyway but really? ?
