Hi all, sorry modern content Eldest daughter car, focus MK1 zetec s, petrol 1.6, won't hold 2500 for emmision test for mot. Get to about 2300 and revs start fluctuating, then shoot up to 3500+, lift off and it drops down to 2300ish again. Cable throttle, no fly by wire, checked & clean throttle body, TPS, checked for air leaks etc, no fault A quick Google comes back with several same faults, but no solutions. Anyone?

Try unplugging/cleaning the MAF sensor, can sometimes cause odd issues. MAF

Check the breather system carefully, there is a rats nest of smallish bore breather tubes which split open. Replace any failed ones then reset the KAM (keep-alive-memory) with a diagnostic scanner and drive it for a few miles to reset it's learned air intake values. If the pipes are all ok, I am not sure. Also I think you are not supposed to clean the throttle bodies on this engine, there should be a warning sticker on it to say 'please, don't', but I can't recall why ford said not to.

Cheers Rich, done a bit of research and apparently they also do this when the cambelt jumps a tooth, the car is becoming a nightmare, she doesn't trust it anymore, think it'll probably end up on the oval, thanks for your help anyway

Belt is an easy change on one of these and the timing tools are buttons to buy..

were you able to find the fault? I've had the same fault for months and the ITV passes miraculously. I'm already quite worried.
