Background ; I am learning to act, a long time ambition, today I joined a small group as a handyman, driver, set building and a walk on part. We need a car on stage, now for the hard part, all the stage doors are small and it’s around 12’ from ground level to access. Going to need at least 2 seats and an opening bonnet, it can be a bit bashed up and obviously a none runner. I have some ideas using some real parts and some covered wooden frames.... half a car will do. Open to ANY suggestions

Do the seats need to be next to each other,or will tandem do? Get a wreck, chop it in half lengthwise and fit industrial castors to move it, then the wheels don't have to do anything? Ok from the'correct' side, obviously with as much stripped off as possible to reduce weight

Ok from the'correct' side, obviously with as much stripped off as possible to reduce weight Ta for that, not sure yet exactly how they want it, I also have not seen the stage layout so I’m not 100% on where the seats (audience) are going. Once I know that then I can work on positioning and angles. Anything with any real weight and size is the problem, there are 12 steps up to the theatre, planning/production meeting in the next week or so and does not need to be ready until 20th November. I have no idea about any of this stuff, it’s great

Yeah of course but that was the way my mind was going, length-ways as opposed to width.

I once got the fire service to cut up a scrapper Corsa for a school I used to work for - rolled it around on a pallet with wheels and lifted it onto the stage. Winner.

Would a folding Silhouette frame covered with cloth etc be an option?

Does the car have to be seen to drive on or will it just be on stage when the curtains open? When you say the access doors are small, exactly what is the measurement? If it doesn't have to be seen to move I think your cloth covered frame should do, a 1D side to the audience with about 2 foot of overlap for roof / bonnet. If the car goes down to the floor, (camouflaged by cartoony skirt or chameleon-esque recreation of backdrop), you'd get away with a small bench. If you do need to go with a real car to hack about, look for something that's very light to start with like a Peugeot 106 3-dr. Wildcard; Smart FourTwo, (might drive in up ramps?) Available from about £250.00 Might be worth buying one of these? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Prop-Building-Guidebook-For-Theatre-Film-and-TV-by-Eric-Hart-Hardback-2017/312683124133?epid=232788628&hash=item48cd5dd5a5:g:Mq8AAOSwfVpYuL08

If it doesn’t have to move, the body from a separate chassis car could be used? Even better, a car that uses bolt on panels? It would be fairly easy to make a set of panels and the body tub look quite realistic (I have lots of these spare!)

I think you may be taking it too literally, you need to suggest a car not put one up there.

i would have thought almost any donor could be stripped of its outer panels and re-assemebled in a convincing enough form with minimal inner structure to worry about?
