Oxfordshire based British Leyland logistics parts arm Unipart is still trading as a successful British logistics consultant company meaning BL is still alive and trading in Cowley. (sort of). 😂 (I wonder if they’ve still got any wings for my Allegro). Unipart were (are?) at the forefront of computerisation, I had a friend who worked there in '77 as a 'programmer', and visited them years later when I worked for Sun Microsystems. I also visited BL, or some part of it on the other side of the dual carriageway to the what is now the Mini production lines. Fun parking my company Ford Cortina in their car park, employees with non-BL cars weren't allowed in.

I was somewhat surprised to find a "Marina" (WBH) door handle on the (optional extra) drives door on our US-built Tiffin Allegro RV..
I kept looking at it and thinking "that looks familiar"!

On shared components, it does usually make sourcing easier (if not more expensive if marketed as the "premium" version). Said RV headlamps are suffering with 90's plastic headlamp cloudy syndrome. Luckily, as Mustang units, they're $60 a pair from China (via the US) rather than the ones marketed as for an actual RV at triple the cost.
You tend to have fun when the "donor" vehicle becomes rarer than the "specialist" borrower - something Scimitar owners know only too well. Fuel caps for the SE6 series (again, WBH IIRC) originally appeared on the Arrows-era Sunbeam Rapier Fastback, and then later used by TVR. You can guess where the price points used to sit (when they were still available) - and it wasn't Rootes prices..

given how awful the flappy flap marina handles are to use , its amazing how many vehicles they ended up on. used to hate them on my late step fathers early classic 4 door range rover...so out of place on what at the time was a pretty high end wagon.

Not really retro, but I didn't know until yesterday that Nissan still makes cars under the Datsun name. it seems to be their low cost brand in Russia, South Africa and parts of Asia. The Datsun On-Do is actually a re branded Lada.

The Morris 8 sidevalve engine used metric threads throughout, but the nuts and bolt heads were Whitworth-sized.

The Morris 8 sidevalve engine used metric threads throughout, but the nuts and bolt heads were Whitworth-sized. Urgh, don’t get me started on car manufacturers who totally fail at standardising. As I work on a wide variety of cars, a lot of which are home built or modified, and lot of American stuff, over the years I’ve encountered metric fasteners with imperial heads, imperial fasteners with metric heads, and metric and imperial threads on the same component. I usually end up seeing them as some chump with a rattle gun has made one ‘fit’ the other with liberal application of Ugga Duggas. Land Rover are terrible for this, as are 70s-up American GM.

.... with specialist sports car maker Ginetta swopping its earlier Ford-sourced external handles for Marina units on its G15 and G21 models. MGB-sourced on the early G15 and the G21 was Marina from the get go.

I was somewhat surprised to find a "Marina" (WBH) door handle on the (optional extra) drives door on our US-built Tiffin Allegro RV.. I kept looking at it and thinking "that looks familiar"! It will be something to do with the name. I reckon BL had copyright on the name Allegro and the only way Tiffin could have it was to use some of the excess door handles that BL produced when they expected Marinas to sell in the numbers rivaling the Beetle Adrian

Carrying on with duggers 's theme of engines being used by the RN. (OK, not car related); Famously propelled by 4 x Rolls-Royce Olympus jet engines: Ditto (marine version). HMS Ark Royal (R07) Lets not forget the Concord used the Oily-impus engines too! Adrian
