I saw a pic on Facebook of the tr7 on a trailer That was probably being recovered from where I broke it so been awhile since I updated this thread, about time I put up some details of what's being going on which truthfully isn't a lot. after breaking the tie rod during an autosolo it was replaced with a spare that luckily had lying around which meant I was able to attend a new years day classic car event at a nearby farmers market. I didn't get round to taking pictures because it was just so crowded that you'd end up having half the cars blocked by people, I was able to find this pic that someone snapped of my car as I was leaving on my way to the event all the gauges decided they didn't want to work and by the time I got to the parking area the car was steaming under the bonnet which turned out to be leaking from the hose from the rad to the V. more to update just trying to collate some more pics of where I've gone from there

The tie rod that I broke end of last year has been repaired and beefed up a bit (new polybushes will be used as well) From this; To this (done both sides even though only 1 was broken); Also I was getting a bit fed up with the 3.5 as it was using a fair bit of oil, smoking under power and just never seemed to be running right to me, I contemplated many engine options, favourite option being the 1UZ but being low on funds I opted for the cheaper more straight forwards option and got myself a 3.9 efi RV8, I bought a rather battered looking offroader which had exactly what I need, the engine with ecu & wiring cut down to bare essentials enough to run the engine, no lighting wiring or anything (not needed as already in my car) I did contemplate leaving the engine in this and having some fun with it for a bit but was put off by a short test drive down a narrow single lane track with ditches either side, the auto gearbox was either modded for this behaviour or it was slipping badly either way it took its time to change from 1st to 2nd and when it did it gave an almighty kick to the rear end that I felt like it would send me into one of the ditches which made me back off very quickly so was a fairly tame test drive in the end and the engine was promptly removed, a couple weeks later it has been stuck into the TR7, just waiting for the fuel tank to have an additional fitting added to it for the return line (as being carbbed previously it didn't have a return line)

Time for another update, had to have a rethink of the bonnet latch as it was fouling the idle control valve, so decided to put some aero catches on, at the same time as installing these I had the idea of having the bonnet raised to allow some airflow out as it gets pretty hot in that engine bay using the spacers that came with it, not sure I'll be keeping it open that much as I'd get too many comments of the bonnet isn't shut most likely 😆 also found out a good reason why the 3.5 carb'd engine was never running right, no idea how this was missed previously... Yep, that's a fuel hard line that's twisted and squished, surprised it ran at all like that

Possibly allowing enough fuel to fill the float bowls at idle or low revs, but not higher up the range? Always feels good when you find something like that, doesn't it? That "ah, so that's why!" moment...

I managed to have a quick blast out tonight with the 3.9efi all up and running now, it certainly accelerates a lot quicker than the 3.5 (not surprising if it was struggling for fuel) managed to get a quick clip of it, not perfect audio as had the windows and sunroof open so I don't overheat http://instagr.am/p/CAOFOB4l0SS hopefully the instagram will load properly

Did you get a big hike in insurance going to the 3.9? At the moment I only pay around £140 for my 3.5, but I keep thinking of a larger 3.9 or even 4.6.

I've not told them yet, wanted to get it all sorted and brought back home on the drive before getting all updated
(the above video was just taking the scenic route home from the workshop it was being worked on in)
