I've been lurking on this forum for awhile now and finally now able to make a thread of my own, I'll try to keep it updated but I'm not that mechanically talented so most of the work wont be done by me so will struggle for documentation and pics but will try my best So here is my TR7 that I picked up this morning, it currently has a slant 4 in it but that is being pulled out within the week hopefully and will be sticking in a 3.5 RV8, also that body kit will be removed from it as it's quite awful and here is the mess on an engine bay with the slant 4 to be removed

I don't know if it is just me but it looks kind of pleased with itself sitting on that trailer 😁 either that or you had just told it about your V8 plans...

quick update, the car was purchased on ebay without viewing beforehand (bad idea I know) and there has been a few things found that wasn't disclosed on the advert the underside is rather rusty with patches of fibreglass and underseal then the more worrying part is the strut tower, the red outline is where it should be connected to the car but isn't this will all be fixed

That will keep you busy for a while. Make sure you do a really good job around the rear axle mountings, mine wasn't rusty but the V8 still caused several large cracks. Theres some pics of how I strengthened it in my thread.

More progress, here's the strut tower repair and some inner arch holes to be fixed found these LED strips, not sure if/how they are connected so don't know how to turn them on (could be wired into the lights?) tried on some different wheels on that my Dad had lying around his workshop, think they suit the car much better than the white wheels that came with the car (also you can see that horrid kit has been removed) if all goes well the engine should be getting installed tomorrow 🤞

You are not alone! I have seen the odd TR6, TR4, even TR2s floating around over the last few years but, honestly, I cannot remember when I last saw a TR7 driving around. They must be very rare now, the TR that was always seen as a poor follow up to the TR6. I have always liked them, especially the early ones with tartan seats or something like that. I shall watch this build with great interest.

Leds look like someones attempt at footwell lighting probably wired into the courtesy lights, I would suggest the bin!
Inner wing repair looks good, the corrosion in the wheelarch/front of the footwell will probably extend higher and need the bottom of the arch to be cut out, no great deal though, while the engine is out you might also want to cut the battery tray out I wish I had done mine when I had the chance it would make access to the left of the engine far easier, it's too close to the exhast with a V8 to put a battery on anyway.

Definitely agree with the wheels much more period to the car. I see quite a few TR7's with MGF wheels though which spoil the look foe me, far to modern. Was quite surprised when I went to the BMC & BL show at the British Motor Museum to se 5 rows of them!

Was quite pleased to see a TR7 the other day just down the road from my house. At least I thought it was. Then it rumbled past and I realised it was a TR8. I believe that it was also a genuine example having spoken to a friend in the know. Sounded gorgeous! My Midas project has a kind of link to the TR7 as it uses the rear light and the early (larger) petrol cap I shall be following this project - consider it bookmarked!
