Once i've fitted the wiper motor, sorted the windows and cable routing i'll be wrapping it all in loom tape. Only thing I was wondering about was why the indicators and side lights flash out of sequence with each other when the indicator is on? Sounds like an earth issue, not surprising with a fibreglass car.

Fitting these isn’t fun, they’re brittle and extremely expensive and hard to buy.

I really like this era corvettes, this looks like a pretty decent car to start with, will be interested to see what its like when you get a bit further into it, are you going to strip it down completely and check everything or sort what you can see and run it? Will be following this with interest. Tony (would look great Pro street but then I am biased)

If you mean the front indicator/side marker flash alternately - they are meant to do this. My Camero was like it as well.

I have a full GM workshop manual for the (87) Camaro - may well share similar wiring/window motor workings.

I'm just going to do the basics to get it reliable. The brakes and suspension have all been overhauled recently so hopefully nothing to do there. Engine runs very well now i've replaced the wiring harness, just going to do oil/filter/plugs ect. The main issue with this car was the interior and bodywork, both are big money to sort on a vette which is why it was cheap. The birdcage and frame are solid, doors close perfectly and windscreen is original so i'm positive it's a goodun. I've got a wide arch kit and 16x10 BBS E50 wheels to go on it, with spacers this is going to be a very mean looking car.

Bit of wheel porn, these were ordered by BF goodridge for the development of a famous tire (forgot which one) back in the 80’s. GM fitment; possibly the only ones in existence?

I can’t continue with the second headlamp as it got cracked on the way to the UK and i’m waiting for some JB weld putty to arrive to repair. Waiting for the wiper motor, window relay and replacement studs for the tail lights as they all broke off. Had some time free so started fitting the sound deadening, went for Noico as its half the price of Dynamat and the reviews say its just as good. Such a boring task I don’t envy the guys who do this for a living.

Couple of quick questions for you... 1. Which wide body kit have you bought? 2. Why have you got me surfing for pre 73 Corvettes?

I went for the factory L88 style fender flares off an ebay seller in the states, they're very poorly made and will take a lot of work to get to fit, quite disappointing but it's all part of the old car thing right?
Because the chrome bumper vette's are the best looking, I wouldn't touch a post 72 car, they're so ugly, and the prices reflect that.
I also wouldn't buy a car in the UK, lots of dogs being tarted up with high prices, theres one on ebay right now with a rear leaf spring thats almost totally flat...
Edit, I just realised you're in the states, lucky you!

I’ve been wondering if you can backdate a later car to chrome bumper, but it looks like the rear of the car is a nightmare to do that to. I’m an expat in Minnesota and have been into old Porsche’s since I’ve been here. Parts (and cars) are ridiculous prices, so thought I should try something more local. Your post got me thinking about a 70s C3. The Chrome bumper cars here seem to be double the price of the later cars (68-72 vs 73-82). I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. I might have to wait until after summer and hope the prices settle a little. No decent projects here for under $15k for a chrome bumper but workable later models for $8k. You are really getting on with yours. I’m amazed at how quickly you are getting stuff done! Thanks for the reply.

To be fair to the styling of the post '72 models they are also cheaper because emissions rules saw engine power (& economy) plummet. Obviously not too hard to rectify or greatly improve upon with some expense & loss of originality.

It can definitely be done but you’ll spend thousands in body work to change the front and rear clips and still have a late year vin, I considered it at one point but realised it would cost more than a cheap chrome project car. C3 parts aren’t hard to find at all but they are incredibly expensive, even more so if you buy a 68 which had a lot of one year only stuff(77 did too with a few oddball parts nobody repros like the windscreen washer switch) Trust me there are Driver quality chrome bumper cars for around 15k but the rust free ones sell fast, usually they need another 10k worth of paint and bodywork tho, fibreglass prep is long and labour isn’t cheap. I’m budgeting £5k for my paintjob and thats with me doing a lot of the prep and glass repairs. It might look like I'm getting on quick but theres a huge amount of work to be done yet, every job takes longer than you expect thanks to 50 years of bad repairs.

Need some help with tires for those beautiful wheels. 16X10, very little to be found for wide 16's it seems, previous owner was running 245 45 font and 250 55 rear, I can't accord Mickey Thompson drag radials on the back, was thinking 245 Toyos on the front but it needs something a bit meatier on the back?
Sidenote we now have working electric windows, they're very slow and gummed up with old grease, not looking forward to pulling them out.

Ah so it seems 16inch tires can be found but are very very expensive....almost makes more sense to rebuild the wheels with 17inch barrels and to save the money on buying tires!
