Cool pics Moggyman. I took the decision not to go this year, choosing to work on the van instead (and working today). I'll make the effort next year.

I love this car and it's been driven a fair distance to get there. I see it regularly at one of my customers premises in Kent.

It always amazes me how many if these cars are in the UK. Great pics, we went a few years ago and now I’m alot closer I should really go again.

I went yesterday and the conditions were even worse. I have to say though that it does feel like it's run for the competitors and not the spectators - if you don't have a pit pass - you're well out of it. You're a good 100/150 yards from the start line and that's at it's closest (the fencing is placed diagonally away from the pit area so that the further you go away from the pits the further away you are from the action.)
Just a shame really. There were a couple of v interesting cars/vans in the car park - I'll post some pictures up shortly.

I've not posted any others as, in the main, OP posted a great selection of americana that my other photos wouldn't add a great deal to.

Even though I enjoy going to watch, it can feel a bit them and us. There's always a good crowd of spectator cars to see on the beach, but you do feel a bit left out peering through the Herrras fencing at the paddock. I don't really see the need for this. There is enough space on the beach for it still to remain safe. Ok keep spectator cars separate and spectators themselves a safe distance from the start line and track. I haven't been to many race circuits but from what I've seen you get to have a close look at the cars in the paddock. This would really add to the experience.

Spot on Jonsey - spot on. I took some video and tried to get some shots of the pit area but the fencing got in the way. I just felt like I was really out of it (felt a bit of a chump actually standing there). I don't think the wind helped frankly. I like wandering around the cars (some of the 'new' stuff was really interesting, interspersed with the V8's/American stuff but I sort of lost heart really and went home.
Not sure I'll bother next year tbh. Only way I'd go back is if I was inside the ropes (competing or buying a pitpass for the entire family but you've got to get in there really early). I just think it could be organised alot better so that even the cars lining up to do the speed run would only need to be quarantined off and that the pits could be open to everyone.
I went to the Jaguar d type celebration last year (oh my lord) that was a much smaller event as an aside - I've got some photos of that (this was at Pendine too). It was to celebrate the speed runs that the drivers drove 50 years ago - really interesting.
i'll post more photos up shortly.

Whilst it may sound blunt, as mentioned above, the Hot Rod Races are run for the racers first and foremost. Pit passes, spectating, press and everything else is purely an aside.
I agree, it would obviously improve the experience for spectators to be able to walk around the cars. However, licensing and insurance plays a major factor in the numbers we can have milling around the cars. In addition, It’s already a big job to keep cars running in the correct order, to put up to another 2,000 people in amongst them would make the job a near impossible task. The Race of Gentlemen tried it last year as a revenue boost, but it brought the event to a complete standstill. There are plenty of opportunities to get up close to the cars, we scrutineer for close on 12 hours Friday, the cars park outside the pits whilst the course is erected at the start of the day, then when racing is over, the fences come down and the public can come and see the cars then.
It’s licensing again that dictates the spectator line. The faster the speed, the further you need to be away. The pits are only 100 yards wide, so it’s closer than the 100-150 yards stated above at the start line.
We do appreciate that people come from far and wide and spend a lot to get there and stay over, which is why we don’t charge for spectating, so thanks to anyone that has attended over the years.
