Any VM diesel specialists out here? I have a 96 Frontera with the 2.5 TD and it is fitted with a electronic controlled Bosch VP pump. I want to convert it to a mechanical VE pump but can I just loosen the nut on the timing gear or do the gear falls down in the timing cover?

Pretty sure they stay put (I've only built one full engine and it did on that). It's a big gear.

I found out that you need a special tool which I found from a Ford dealer!
