My "self charging hybrid" uses regenerative braking but only on light pedal pressures. The first bit of pedal travel causes regeneration but as soon as you press harder the disks come on too. To make the best of it you have to brake early and gently. You aren't doing an emergency stop with all the energy going into the battery. It does mean the brakes are pretty sharp until you get used to them though.
On the plus side I believe I still have a pedal ultimately connected to the wheels so if the computer did ever chuck in the towel you could still stop it.
I'm fairly certain there is no vacuum assist. It'll be from the ABS pump. And I'm fairly certain it has electric power steering.
I drove a Ford F350 truck a couple of years ago and that appeared to have brake assistance hydraulically from the same pump that did the power steering. Although it's hard to follow the pipes on those things 'cos there are loads of them! And the missus would disown me 'cos she wouldn't want to be seen with a total nerd so I have to do my investigations in secret!
Edit... Ah yes, the other problem is that you can only have regenerative braking on the driven wheels. That's ok one mine because it has a rear motor (its AWD) but on a 2WD car it limits your options a bit.
