Hello everyone! After several people asking me to put a build thread together, I've decided to give it a go. I'll try to keep this updated as much as possible! So what is it?I'm still at the initial stages of building up my 1988 Citroen 2CV into a long distance rally car. My target event is the Spring Maroc Challenge next Easter down in Morocco, whether the car will be ready by then is anyone's guess! Here she is, when I bought her towards the end of 2018 for the grand total of £800 Photographs well, but closer inspection revealed some serious rust issues (more on that later). She's actually a fairly low mileage car, but unfortunately the previous owner decided to leave her outside, uncovered for 4 years. Let's say these cars aren't known for their rust resistance. What's the plan?As I already mentioned, this car is destined to long distance rallies and also a bit of daily driving (that's probably wishful thinking more than anything else). I'm also approaching this as an educational endeavour for myself; I've had classics and weird vehicles over the years but I've never got into anything this involved. Polishing my welding, painting and other skills will hopefully come as a result of this project. It will also be my first serious adventure into motorsport. I've also done a lot of thinking about how to power this thing, and I've decided to go all out (I'm selling it to myself as a 30th birthday present to myself) and will be installing a BMW R1100RT engine which should give it a good amount of shove. Roll cage, seats and other upgrades will go along with it too. Hopefully I can figure out how to get photos onto this thing. Please bare with me! Cheers!

Replacement of rusty panels, this was trickier than expected as some of them were so far gone (particularly the front section of the sills and A pillars) that holding the shape of the shell became a bit of a challenge. Good to have my friend and colleague Toby who's a lot better at this kind of thing than me! New lower bulkhead New floor pans (omg those sills are bad ) Some serious bracing to keep the new sills in place prior to welding! This whole section needs to come out, it's about as consistent as Ready Salted Kettle Chip That's better!

Nice new spot welds on the A-panels (it's nice to know people that have every tool under the sun!) Had to cut the lip that joined the bulkhead with the vent panel as it was completely gone, welded in a new L profile. Welding on this thing is tricky, the sheet metal is about 0.6mm before rust! Great starter project for someone who's just started out welding... Not the most elegant but after sealing and painting should look ok The C pillar had seen better days... Let's cut it out: Oh dear Lord... That's better!

Continuing to patch bits and pieces. N/S rear wheel arch This is a tricky one, at least 4 different panels meet here, all of them rusty (of course). Just decided to cut it all out and rebuild: Not too bad for an absolute beginner I think! Any constructive feedback welcome by the way!

This bad boy arrived! BMW R1100RT engine with 14k miles on it, will have to be stored for now though! Slowly getting to the point where I can dump the shell on the chassis and send it off for its roll cage and seat frames. There is no way I'm attempting a cage, I'll leave that to the pros. Thrown the repainted suspension elements on the chassis in order to have something to roll. Powder coated wheels and brand new Toyo tyres! Shell provisionally back on the chassis and close to being ready to trailer! Kinda looks like a car now doesn't it?

Still can't see pictures and nice to meet you the other day That's so odd! I think it's something to do with which album they're in on Google Photos. Are they showing now? And it was my absolute pleasure to meet you! That car of yours is an absolute beauty! I'm sure we'll meet again at future 2CV shenanigans.

Are you not seeing any pictures at all or just the latest ones? I've tried viewing it from different devices in which I'm not logged in and they seem to appear fine! (Apart from the post in which you quoted them initially).
