Really sorry if this has been asked before but looking for some clarification on MOT laws (especially after the new rulings came in).
My MK2 Golf is due its MOT and currently it’s in the bodyshop with half of the interior missing. If I put it in for test with no rear seats will it pass under the theory ‘it’s not there so not tested?’ Would I need to remove the belts too?
Rear seat is in my garage about 3 hours in the wrong direction haha
Many thanks!

Remove the belts and the seats won't need refitting. If it's not there it can't be tested.

Depends on the tester. Most testers out there will know the seats should be present.
My tester, for example, is really funny about it. There is a section which talks about trackday cars and rally cars, but that's is down to the opinion of the tester.
Rear seats IME tend to be OK, but removing a front passenger seat almost always gets questions asked from testers.

The tester can't fail a vehicle for something that isn't fitted, it's like when they put an advisory on for a spare wheel, it's not part of the test. That's from the new mot regs

There is also something in the new regs referring to things being removed when they previously were. mk2cossie is probably the best person to ask here.

If there isn't an actual seat in there for the belt to correspond to, it isnt tested. May get an advisory for it so the tester covers his tho Thanks for the tag ChasR
