I've been looking about for a cheepish daily driver to replace my celica and I've been thinking 924? the one to go for apparently is the S with the 2.5l porshe engine and five stud wheels but I'm thinking early four cyl 2.0 with four stud wheels (this just sold on ebay for £750.00) + lowered + euro style wheels (Ronal turbo/splitrims or wide ATS rims) = what do you think? this is what got me stated thinking about them in the first place, It's been sitting in the same place for over eight years now, just slowly rusting away in the works car park.

I can't make up my mind whether I like them or not.... retro without a doubt, but I think it's the image that puts me off - people seem to hang on to that '80's stock broker image they had (although more so the 944). Then again who gives a fook what anybody else thinks?! They're a pretty looking car that's for sure!

To be fair though at least the yuppies wouldn't be seen dead in them, they've moved on to newer, not really in any way better cars, besides, they are nice cars no doubt, and great looking too, I'd say go for it if you want one and can afford it. Just be careful though, I've been told that Porsches, past and present, aren't nearly as nice as popular opinion suggests, make sure you're very careful with it. I know a guy with a modern Boxster, whose had older Porsches too, and says that they've never been all that reliable, but the newer ones are really unreliable, Boxsters leak oil every chance they get apparently!

No no no no no! What have you done? I've come over all silly and just spent the last 20 minutes looking at 944's on eBay. They're not too much, even for a Turbo. And they do 160!

A mate of mine had 944..... it was OK, not really my cup of tea tho' ........ I thought the interior was very plastic-y for what was suposed to be a quality car.......
There's a very rough looking 924 for sale a couple of minutes walk away from me.......

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Just been watching Top Gear. Have decided a porcshe would be a silly idea. Hammond's 924 did properly rock tho'. And did Scraping Scrap have a hand in JC's 928 Scrapiture? If not, he should sue 'em for plagarising his concepts! ;D

Theres alot of snobery against the 924 for not being a proper Porsche. Bit unfair really surely with the 924 you get a great car for the money.

Theres alot of snobery against the 924 for not being a proper Porsche. Well... It was actually designed by Porsche for Audi... But that also means that many (expensive) parts are actually the same with (cheap) VAG parts... So the running costs must be quite reasonable !!!

Claim to fame maybe Hammonds 924 was on my drive in the summer, it was my mates, he was selling it, and top gear happened to buy it. We took it up to Brands, the famous death hill, they actually go ok, we had it sideways in the dry, we noticed the wheel bearing was on it's way out too it was the offside front. I'd buy one, but put carerra rims on, think they are 'cup' ones or something, popular swop on 944's!

That Top Gear Porsche challenge was absolute class. Can't remember the last time I laughed so much. Even the missus was in stitches. Gotta admit I was quite attracted to James 944 for the money. As for 924's, my mate used to have one, and they're not exactly the most practical of cars for a daily driver IMO. Guess it depends on what you're planning to use it for. And defo agree with this; And did Scraping Scrap have a hand in JC's 928 Scrapiture? If not, he should sue 'em for plagarising his concepts! ;D
