Toyota seem to vary what combination of 12 and 24V electrics are used, depending on the market. Mine is Spanish in origin, and therefore I got 24V everything. I know that is right as I've fitted new headlamps with 24V bulbs and they work fine. Why Spain got all 24V and Portugal got 12V is a mystery only known to Toyota boffins. Despite the project being in storage - I've still been collecting stuff. I want a factory style roll bar, so I've got something to bolt the seatbelts too if I run without hardtop. But my rear seats are longer, two passenger ones, and therefore the rear braces need to be longer, so I'll have t make my own. Still not a problem - I've done tube work before, using a Tubela bender. I looked for another Tubela bender, but instead found the similar (old) Staffa bender for a very reasonable price. By the time I sell off the Hilmor dies that also came with it - it'll be even cheaper. Gathered a few spares too - Gear lever gaiter
- Expansion tank bracket
- Fender apron (between front wing and bonnet)
- Spare steering column, as I'm thinking about a powered column power steering conversion
I also uncovered a big stash of spares quite local. One of the jewels was a pair of rear doors - in stainless steel. ....but - they've got no recesses for the number plate - bummer

Nice find with the cable (could do with some like that as well)
As for mixing electronics I worked on electrostatic (Versatec) plotters (big 42" printers use din the semiconductor industry among other places). Low voltage logic, high voltage, very high voltage, hydraulics, pneumatic all in the same machine. Oh and the ink was latex based so stained your hands for days after, the magenta was particularly nice.

This project isn't dead, just hibernating, whilst I complete the Morris. But a recent trip to America netted some useful parts to bring home in a bursting suitcase. Some of which are on the critical path, some are bling. But I don't know the differences between US spec LandCruisers and mine, so I limited myself to parts I knew would fit. Not the most riveting bunch of photos, but it all I have at the moment Stainless steel bolts and screws, and new door pins, for fitting out the exterior. There was a couple of hundred dollars here. More bolts, the proper plated ones with Japanesse spec 12 and 14mm heads from Metric Overland. A 1000 piece kit isn't good for the suitcase as it weighs 5KG - ho hum. Getting slightly more interesting (ish) Number plate holders. The rear one, on the left is NLA. Good second hands ones fetch hundreds !! Front ones are available but I opted to get a matching pair of 3rd party ones. This random assortment of parts is - A genuine gear knob
- A complete set of body mounts
- A 2nd hand pair of vents for the scuttle
The blue vent is 100%, but the beige one took a whack in shipping, so may or may not be usable, but my originals are rusted out. Lastly a complete set of hubcaps. There is something perverse about having a 4x4 with hubcaps that appeals to me. These are genuine Toyota and were only $105 shipped to my hotel Quality of these original Toyota parts is off the scale The hubcaps when fitted with the free wheeling hubs should end up looking something like this when done. Thanks for looking.

This project is still very much in the queue. But I've been collecting parts big and small. One of the surprising things that was rusted on mine was the air-filter housing. Water had obviously been resting on the top cover. So I picked up this much better one But the biggie - litterally was a new (ish) tub Hire a Transit van and load it up ready for a trip to @grumpynorthener Yep it is still pretty rusty, but way better than the one I have. A few panels will get that close to usable. But the real winner, is that is an Irish RHD tub. So I can convert to RHD. If I can also get a wiring loom from Ireland, a wiring loom will get it converted to 12V. I've seen them for sale previously. 24V LandCruiser bits are rare and expensive, so it'll be worth doing, and easier to maintain going forward. But the real winner with 12V is I can fit an electric powered column to give me power steering. Just as well, as by the time I finish this, I will be an old man, and powered steering will be a necessity There of course will be a few gotchas on the RHD + 12V conversion, not least steering box and windscreen frame and wipers. But I'll keep my eye out for bits whilst I finish my Morris. Thanks for looking

Love it. I have a Mk3 Hilux, and it looks very similar in lots of respects (underneath), but nowhere near as cool as a proper 'Cruiser. Also, collecting parts now means when you steam into it proper, you won't get snagged up waiting for stuff to arrive. Well, you will, but hopefully not as much. There was a dude on here rebuilding a Hilux Surf with loads of genuine parts, he ordered them from the UAE (I think) and even after postage was loads cheaper than from the main stealers here.

I've seen a few good deals on parts from UAE. I've got to get around to buying a PTO shifter cable from there. They even had NOS doors in original packaging - not cheap though. On an overland vehicle they occasionally have a map of the route they have planned on the bodywork. Maybe I should do a similar thing with where I buy my parts from. I might have to add France to that list These people seem to do some good body tub options

Don't know if I said already but these were/ are popular in Aus and NZ, it might be worth checking websites or groups over there for RHD specific parts, especially as those parts probably won't be ones that rot away!

For those that follow Retropower on YouTube - their next project is going to be a BJ40 !!
They haven't revealed the exact plans yet.
But if you fancy following along with your own BJ40 - mine is going to be for sale soon.
It is with a heavy heart. But I've picked up a hand injury, and whilst it is going to be fine day-to-day. I don't think embarking of a full restoration is going to do it any good.
So I'm going to charge up the batteries, get the engine running, and get it on eBay.

Thanks for the kind words - appreciated I threw on a couple of spare batteries this afternoon, and the old thing started up without too many dramas. Well apart from the noise, the exhaust needs replacement - but I knew that. I shuffled it backwards and forwards - so it is time for the next owner to take over. Now shamelessly on eBay
