Sadly the time has come to part with a couple of my cars - the Mustang and a 2001 Porsche Boxster (see separate advert).
The Mustang has been fantastic and I’ve loved owning it, but the time has come for a change. I'm after something 911 flavoured and also need to free up a few quid to buy a small van for work, so the Mustang and Boxster need to go.
The Mustang was built in San Jose, California on 28 February 1966 and sold via the dealer in San Jose, Ca. The first two owners were local to San Jose and the third owner had the car for 20 years and lived near Sacramento, Ca., so this car is a genuine California car, which accounts for the excellent original condition of the unrestored body.
1966 Mustang 200ci Sprint Coupe (rare 1966 only model) in ‘Tahoe Turquoise’
MOT and Tax exempt, classic car insurance was only £100 making this a very cheap car to own and a great investment - early Mustang prices are rising fast
200 cubic inch / 3.3 litre straight six with ‘cruise-o-matic’ auto 'box.
Very original and unrestored car.
California car from new until imported and registered by me last year and genuinely totally rust free.
Only one UK owner (me) and 3 previous owners, all in California. The last owner had owned it for 20 years and the car was in regular use, so not a ‘barn find’ or something dragged out of a swamp / scrap-yard!
‘Pony’ interior in very good condition, apart from carpets, which are quite faded / stained in places and the dash top which was the usual sun damage, but is covered with a purpose made mat to tidy it up and protect it from further damage.
Un-cut dash with modern FM radio cassette made to look like the 60’s standard radio – I’ve read on line that these can be adapted for blue-tooth, but don’t know how it’s done or what the cost is.
Only 135k miles which the previous owner thinks is genuine, working air-con.
Runs and drives very well – previous owner states the engine and brakes were re-built 5000 miles ago.
MOT exempt but to ensure it was safe and reliable the car had a thorough one over at Thunder Road Garage (very well-known and highly regarded American Car specialist, hot rod builders and restorers of vintage race cars, particularly Cobras). Over £2500 spent getting everything just right, including new wheels / tyres and exhaust with ‘Cherry Bomb’ silencer. Gauges all now work (rare for a Mustang!) and door locks replaced – now working off one key.
A great appreciating classic car, rare in the UK as it’s not a ‘big buck resto V8’, but is a great car which could easily be used as a daily driver (it was in the USA for the last 50 years), or as a weekend car to use and improve as you see fit, or even as the base for a vintage race car build – you would be hard pressed to find a better, more straight and rust free car to build a race car from. It’s old enough to qualify – you could be racing it at the Goodwood Revival next year with a little work (and a lot of cash!)
Asking price is £11,995 - just looking to get back what I've spent on it.
No silly offers and not looking for a p/x unless you have a Porsche 911 or Cayman to swap for it
