Change of plan and have gone with a new cooper S 7.5" brake set up rather than my "big brake" 7.9" vented. This came about as I spotted a very good deal on the speedwell replicas with new tyres. Knowing full well they won't fit over the big brakes, I costed up the cooper S bits. Prices much cheaper compared to 15-20 years ago. Bought the wheels as it meant I wouldn't have to fit wide arches to cover the 6x10 100+ minilights as the speedwells are dinky 4.5x10. Keeping the other rims plus the big brake kit for another project. Plus the big brake are rather overkill for this Marcos as I've decided not to turbo it. The problem here is I'm running metro hubs so a cooper s brake set up isn't a straight bolt on. New cv joint and boots plus the driveshaft had been Powdercoated too.

CV joint torque used was 193lbs as the CV's had a single split pin hole. Double hole joints use a higher load. Also joints were torqued up to full load using the washer under the nut. Then gently backed off to take the washer off. Then retorqued back to 193.

quite a specific science to the CV joint, imagine the uproar if it was only done up to 192lbs!

Moving onto the inside ? James Yes and no....prep to allow the steering column to be fitted. This is a MK3 column but I think the ignition switch will be coming off and I'll use a dash mounted MK1 style ignition key/switch. Then I can fit a mk2)early MK3 column shroud for the cleaner look. Also there will be some steel bracing going into the dash to connect the column drop bracket to the pedal box.

I'm after a shabby mk4 mini steering column. Doesn't need electrics or steering lock/ignition switch housing.

I rarely post on here but wanted to say top work - this looks really good and I’m learning a lot about how good you can make fibreglass look which should help on my build (Scimitar race car with a Chevy LS). Thanks!

Didn´t look at this thread for ages and now i´m sorry. An excellent repair job on some real dogs dinner work by the previous owner. Glad you´re going for the Jem front. Much better looking I think.

This is a brave and extremely cool project. I had the dark red Corgi Toy.

Building roof chopped, screen raked '68 Mini with G13B 1.3 16v Gti engine with LSD, Yamaha R1 carbs. As well as mk1 Suzuki Swift Gti AWD with a turbo. Drives PHEV Outlander but wishing my mk1 Swift Gti or mk2 CRX Vt were still with me!
