1983 Audi 80GL. 2 Previous keepers, 66,000 miles from new in remarkably original condition
Finished in Topaz green with Reed interior (it is very green), offset nicely by a factory fitted black vinyl roof
MOT until 13th March 2020, no defects or advisories
Bought new from Robinsons Audi in May 1983 by Mr Curtis of Drayton, Norwich. He used the car until the mid 1990ās when it was briefly laid up. In June 1998 Mr Hood also of Drayton acquired the car and used it until 2001 when the lack of power steering became an issue. It was stored in his garage until November last year when it had to be evicted to allow for building works
I acquired the car in November last year and since then have recommissioned it and put it through an MOT. The recommissioning works included the following ā
Full engine service including rotor arm, distributor cap and HT leads
New timing belt and tensioner
New drive belt
New water pump, thermostat, cooling system thoroughly flushed and fresh coolant
Transmission oil changed
All flexible fuel hoses renewed
Braking hydraulics thoroughly overhauled, all flexible brake hoses renewed, front brake calipers rebuilt with new pistons and seals, new rear slave cylinders, Master cylinder rebuilt with new seals and fresh brake fluid
Wheels refurbished and new tyres fitted
The Audi 80 GL is getting to be a rare car nowadays with only around 50 left in the UK, even less in roadworthy condition, this is one of the first to be fitted with the 1781cc engine
Being GL spec the car is fitted with a 5 speed gearbox, front fog lamps, headlamp washers, 4 electric windows and a primitive stop/start system although Iām not sure if the latter still works
The car is in remarkably original condition right down to what I assume is the original Blaupunkt Oxford radio cassette and the original running in sticker being in place on the windscreen
The car is solid underneath, as part of the recommissioning I cleaned back any loose or flaking underseal to clean metal, treated and resealed paying particular attention to the area around the rear suspension which is very good indeed
The bodywork is completely original and free from any previous repairs, even touch ups. It is excellent around the windscreen scuttle panel and sills. It is 36 years old, so there is a little cosmetic rust in common places (rear arches, front wings and the bottom of the drivers door) and some minor dents and scrapes that should be reasonably expected
If you are genuinely interested please contact me directly with any questions or to arrange a viewing.
