After lurking around the fourm for some time I've been encouraged by my friend jimspoloicev8sd1 I've decided to write my first build blog about my 1988 Austin Mini Designer special edition. I bought the car three years ago as a non runner but. I'd previously considered buying it a year earlier when it was running but the owner decided to keep it at the time. When the opportunity came along to buy it again I jumped at the chance. The car is for my wife but its going to be me doing most of the work on it . The plan is to develop my skills on this mini so that I'm ready for when the time comes to do more work on my 1998 MPI Cooper. I've made some videos and uploaded them to Youtube to detail my progress. I'm hoping to update this thread and upload more videos as the project progresses. Wish me luck!

More progress on the Mini Designer recently. I've been focusing on getting the jacking point and door step ready for the outer sill to go on. Progress is slow but satisfying!

A Designer was the first car accident I was ever in. My friends dad (who helps run Minis In Northern Ireland M.I.N.I) bought him a Designer with 7,000 miles on it. It was immaculate. Within weeks it had a 3" cherry bomb exhaust, 13" crappy wheels and all the usual cheap halfords mods then, a few more weeks pass and he stuck it into a lamp post at 60mph with me in the passenger seat. Good times.

More progress.
I finally got around to welding on the passenger side outer sill. For me this is a great achievement as I'm now happy with the strength of the body shell. I now need to tackle all of the other issues - passenger side A panel and wing, front end, valances, wheel arches, boot floor.....

I've been making the most of the current lockdown by repairing my A panel. It is the first time that I've tackled something like this before and I was really happy with the results. I'm no professional!

It has been quite a while since I last posted an update on this project. I've been making slow progress and I think that I am now winning the battle against the rust!
In my latest video I removed the driver’s side rear wheel arch as it resembled more of a colander than a bodywork. After I cut this out, I found yet more rust, but it should be easier to repair now with the rear arch gone. I've got a new heritage arch ready to go back in.
If you like old Mini's then I'd appreciate it if you could give my channel a subscribe. I am trying to get to 400 subscribers by the end of February for no reason other than personal achievement. Thanks!
