Guys,
I want to fit an engine Coolant Warning Light. No problem fitting it or wiring it in but I'm unsure what temperature I should have the light come on at?
Thermostat opens @ 88F Electric Fan kicks in @ 95F.
Thanks in advance.

If you runnng a 1 bar cap, 50:50 water antifreeze mix will go to 127 degC before it boils. I wouldn't go to that point though. Are you going to stop when you the light comes on or are you going to drive until it's safe to do so? I personally wouldn't bother with a light, I would have an accurate gauge with degC marked on it. The light will either make you paranoid if you set it to low or not come on if you set it to high for the tolerances of your engine. I think it would be best to learn where your engine temperature likes to sit. I've tested some cars where the light is set so high as the engine is ruined before the light even comes on.

Jonsey, that's just what I needed to hear as I've been considering those points you raised prior to me posting the thread.
The issue is, the car's standard temp gauge is non linear, i.e. it's got a dead spot. It sits in the same position @ 12 o'clock from approx 80-100C, not great as you can imagine, then if the engine gets too hot it rises suddenly from 100-126C. So,I really want a light, as it's easy to mount on the car's gauge cluster. Another temp gauge would have to be out of direct line of sight compared to a warning light. More than likely I fit another gauge anyway.
I was thinking of using a rad fan switch on @ 100C and off @ 90C?

I'd go with 110 myself, just to cover yourself.
Many track cars will go close to 110 anyway, even with a fresh rad of the right size, lower temperature 'stat etc.

I spec my turbo track cars to sit at 88-90c so plenty of capacity to soak up heat . Cheap digital guage works well for me as you see every degree change .

Cheers Froggy. I do like those digi gauges and had a good look at a lot them but still too big for around my gauge cluster.
