Just seen the new tesco car insurance add. It mentions something about "your old banger" then shows a picture of a d red Meastro, I didnt get the whole number plate. The car looked absolutely perfect, not a banger at all.
Just another example of the Old = curse word mentality out there.

Yeah I noted that too. The use of that car in that condition smacks of a marketing ploy to me. They chose a particularly mint Maestro and called it a 'banger' knowing full well that there would be a reaction, in the interests of getting people talking about the add and boosting the profile of their product. It's too mint to be taken seriously as an example of a banger, I mean look at all those 'perpetual car credit ltd' type adds, they've got lights out and bumpers dragging on the floor, the works.
I'd wager that even people not interested in cars scoff at the TV's from their armchairs when the add comes on, complaining about what 'they' consider as a banger and howling about how some people can't afford a better car and all that old jazz. But maybe i'm just bieng paranoid!

I'm waiting for Tesco Value car insurance. Blue and white stripey cover note etc...
I've seen the ad. I dare say the reg number is one of those non-reg things that they sometimes use. And no, that ain't a banger, that's a minter! ;D

The ad agency called up one of those vehicle agencies and said "we want an old car for an advert, something like really old, like 1980s, what you got?"
"We have ared Maestro?"
"Yeah, great, send it over"
No great thought about whether its ironic that its in good nick for its age or anything. Its just an old car they got sent by an agency.
FWIW we had real bother with Tesco insurance when we made a claim on our poicy with them, took nearly 2 years to sort out. Their call centre was rubbish. Their approved repairer was not competant to carry out the repairs IMO, and we certainly won't insure with them again. What toss.

I'm waiting for Tesco Value car insurance. Blue and white stripey cover note etc... It's on their website! Same as standard cover, but no windscreen/hifi cover or courtesy car, shorter warranty on repairs and optional ncb protection. Filthy cheap though, and would suit a 'disposable' car as I'm not sure they'd be too interested in repairing older stuff.

ive been insured with them for a couple of years now, on my black 72 coupe, when i phoned to insure the 72 tc, the person i spoke to asked what it was as they had not heard of one, then said it was too old. i then pointed out i was allready insured with a car of the same age with them. they then put me through to someone who knew what they were doing
