	Hi all, My mk3 estate is coming up for MOT The car is very solid, apart from the front Jack points on the sill.. or not jacking points perhaps judging by the state of them. They have been folded over in the past and the rust has gotten in and eaten the front of the outer sill away. It's also eaten into the floor a bit as you may see from the picture .. sorry about the quality it was wet. Both sides are the same, about 9 inches at the front of the sill. I'm a diesel tech by trade but don't really dabble in bodywork. I have a welder but I don't think I could tackle it. What sort of costs would this incur?? Of course it'll be worse than it looks I'm sure. the inner sills look fine from shining a torch inside. I'm on a tiny budget at the moment so this may outweigh the cars worth. 	I would have thought that a decent garage would charge a couple of hours labour plus some minor material costs to sort this so you are probably in the £100 - £150 bracket - but its so difficult without seeing it in the flesh

	also note theres a big difference between a quick plate over the top and some black underseal vs a flush fitting butt welded plate and painted to look like new

	It's only a jacking point if you have the correct VW jack that is correctly shaped. Tyre places are terrible for ramming a trolley jack under there-"it's the jacking point mate"-and crushing the whole area. Wifey is on her second Mk3, ask me how I know:-( Anyhoo, it's not too bad to repair as long as the rot hasn't got into the front of the sill(which it usually does). If it has it's wing off time. From experience it will be worse than you think.

	Thanks for the advice, I found a local guy to me in Hawkinge who doesn't mind a bit of welding, £50 a side with me supplying materials. Gets it through another MOT, and possibly into the hands of someone else as that annual car itch is there again!
