I'm contemplating Benz exhaust Version 2.0, and wouldn't mind using a bike silencer. But which sort to look for?! I know nada about bikes, so I have no idea what bike would have a large enough bore. I'm looking for around 2in bore. Can anyone help?

I have a can that I bought to go on the imp, it's a scorpion race can (but road legal). It came off a 750cc or 1000cc I think, but I suspect the bore maybe a bit too big for my needs Shame 'cos it would look pimp as! I guess one way to choose one would be to get one from a bike with a similar power output?

Cheaper aftermarket race silencers are all much of a muchness. Generally have 50mm bore, some have a larger inlet and three bolt fixings. You'll pay £££ for stuff like Yoshi and Akrapovic. Think of a universal can as similar to a cherry bomb.

Most slip on style bike cans will be of 52/54mm inlet. Quite a few cans are bike specific ( bolt on ) so be aware what you are buying. Prob best to get a nice stainless steel one, they last the best. Company name such as Micron, Viper, Art, Carbon can company wild yeild something useful. Or try www.performanceracingparts.co.uk/catalogue/products.asp?cat=3 to make something yourself. Ade

I put a 50mm bore bike race can on my old 2.0 Cav. They tend to be 50mm or 63mm bore, like the man above said the cheap ones are all much of a muchness. And get a slip-on, not a bolt-on. Never paid more than about £25 or so for one, the cheapest was 99p

Thanks chaps, loads of knowledge as always! As I say, I know nothing about bikes so when I see an ebay ad for a Yamazuzi GBFX-1200MP3 I really have no clue what I'm looking at! ;D Dez - that's what happened to me! I ripped the exhaust off within a few miles and had to make a shorter one. I'm trying to get a tidy system together though as my current one is just made up with stuff I had lying around. ;D

Ade Just had an email from Jason at PRP, and he will do a custom build with single stainless oval can for my Dakar for £150 delivered. So that is a viable option. However, I would suggest in the spirit of Most return for least outlay, that you pop into a few bike shops or even breakers, and see if you can pick up FREE, GRATIS, For Nothing, or very little, a used/slightly damaged end can off a large bike, or alternately, an original that has been dumped in exchange for a perfermance pipe. Last year I had two, one was a complete Hornet system, and both found new homes for free. So they are out there.
