Latest update! I know have a drive way!!! Nice to get both cars off the road and now means i can really crack on with the Capri (depending on funds) . I wrote a new list of to do's taking into account everything that i can find wrong: Rear Brakes (inspect again & Free off) Inspect an replace brake hoses. Check/ possibly replace blown headlight and rear light bulbs Figure out whats wrong with interior light bulbs. Look at oil guage/ sender Look at Temp gauge Fuel gauge (probably voltage regulator ) Differential oil leek (new seal?) check oil level Gear box oil check change engine oil and filter Check timing (buy timing light) Tune up carb Change cam belt + tensioner Touch up paint Fix front bumper that some lovely person nocked off Sand back bumper down to check chrome. Clean interior ---------- To start ---------- Rear Brakes / Hoses Lights Temp + Fuel gauge Front bumper Oil levels I think once i get the above sorted i can start driving it around town without too much worry. I also have some Ford Rostyle / GL steel wheels to go on that i used to have on my Escort for a more standard look.

Just read through and it seems to me that aside from the other things mentioned, your rear brake issue might have something to do with this portion of pipe. It looks crushed in two places. Great looking car though, a capri is on my list of cars to own at some point

Ahh good spot! i didnt notice that. I'll have to investigate. I've never replaced any brake hoses so this will be a learning curve. I'm going to try and jack it up soon and whip the back wheels off again.
The Capri was always on my list so cant wait to get this rolling.

Nice project, I had a 1.6 MK 2 Capri back in the 80's. Is the new rear plate for security while parked up on the drive ?

Nice project, I had a 1.6 MK 2 Capri back in the 80's. Is the new rear plate for security while parked up on the drive ? Thanks mate, It will be once i get a few jobs done i think. Luckily the new area is much quieter so i can drive it around to test it out without annoying London drivers! haha With the plate, I just messed the letters up for social media. Thought it would look better than a smudge out plate although its confused a few people already lol maybe it doesnt matter.

So today i had a quick look at the lights. Its both drivers side front and rear side lights that don't work. The bulbs seem fine and i even swapped them over at the front so i'm guessing something has gone wrong under the dash. Bit annoying as i was hoping a couple of bulbs had gone out.
I think i'm going to crack on with brakes first and order some parts from Tickford as they seem reasonable. Firstly I want to buy some new jack stands as this car is a little heavier than the Escort. Anyone had any problems with the Halfords 3 tone ones? either the ratchet or non ratchet ones?

Finely had a little time today to do something on the car. Not a lot but i tried some different wheels on it, fixed the bumper back on that somebody knocked of at the last place and got rid of the other cars paint from the front wing. Before After Bumper back on and post photo cleaned up that scape (can see in above pic) I'm not a fan of these little bumpers and was thinking about trying to find a chrome bumper to go along the front off a mk2 or maybe mk1 as i'm sure the back bumper is a mk1. Had another look at the brake pipes and hose at the back. Thinking of replacing all the hoses still but not sure if its overkill? i havent checked the front but i thought for piece of mind and trying to get them feeling a little better.

Todays Job. Clean up that rear bumper! Before After Its not perfect at all but looks tons better, especially from a few paces back haha. This only leaves the front bumpers to sort out as they seem to be back from the start (mk2 Escort bumpers) Anyone tried a chrome spray?

TBH, I prefer the deep dish alloys, which give it a rather handsome '80s mild custom/Street Machine look, and appear to fill out the arches better.

Here you go Beautiful car mate! I do like this look . I think i'm trying to make mine a subtle hybrid of a mk2 /mk3 without knowing it. Love the front of the mk3 but back of a mk2. I'd love a mk2 grill for the front but cant find one at a normal price! I like them too mate but they're so expensive at the moment I think i need to use that money on the rest of the car at this stage. loads of little things to do. I thought it might be easier to tie the front in to the back chrome bumper at this point.

Latest update! I know have a drive way!!! Nice to get both cars off the road and now means i can really crack on with the Capri (depending on funds) . Can’t beat having a driveway. Get a couple of the lift up driveway posts from machine mart. I’ve got three at mine. Well worth the investment. Don’t want either of them going missing.

Mk 1 Escort (van) bumperettes on the front might match the rear bumper better, though indicators would require a rethink. Slim LED strips could look good, though hardly '70's.. Chrome or black vinyl film to cover them? Your current front looks too much like a cut & modified Mk2 Escort frt bumper..

Today i went back to that sticking rear drum. I finally got the handbrake mechanism apart, understood how it works, freed it up and got it all back together. very pleased with myself although it did nothing for the noise at the rear. When you spin the wheel it seems to grab slightly and make a rough sound. When driving its a very rough rolling noise. i'm guessing this could be a wheel bearing at this point... only going on the sticking brake as it was an advisory on the MOT. I think the MOT must have been a dodgy one anyway at this point. Bit of a noob question i know but any good diagrams of the jacking points for a Capri? the small jack i have struggles to lift the car it seems and its damaging the underneath a little, i think its becuse the surface area of the jack is so small. would be good to have a second opinion from other Capri owners. It can lift the Escort easy. Just ordered some rubber bungs to put on the jack and the axle stands, fingers crossed that might help.

If lifting the front, put the jack under the crossmember, then place your stands on the chassisrails by the jacking points.
To lift the rear, I always put thd jack under the diff, but you have to be careful not to damage the cover. Chock the front wheels!
To lift a side, I put the jack under the front spring hanger.

Went to Western Park Classic Car Show today. Managed to pick a few things up to help out. I'm going to put a Fuel Filter on the Capri & Escort and reading that owners manual, i didnt know there was a small fuse box (i had seen it but didnt think) on the bulk head for the lights ... maybe this is my side light problem , £2 well spent. Some lovely Capris out today. Enjoying the Sinclair C5s should have had a ride And if i was to have a truck it would probably be this one.

The light issue will deffo be a fuse problem. Even if one isn't blown, change them all over and clean the contacts on both sides with coarse sand paper - common issue.

Your sticking back brake could be a flexible hose thats collapsed internally. I had this on my mk2 Escort. Would allow fluid through to the brake but not let it return so brake would stick. Braided hoses all around after that.
