Tomorrow "Dennis" is going to the garage to get the brakes checked. I feel this is wise and even if they can't change anything.. I will know its safe, especially when carrying family. Also I might be getting a job at Halfords never thought I'd say that but Ive been working hard on push bikes to try and get a job so, I can continue having a normal life rather than just surviving during covid 19 as a self employed person. Also means I don't suddenly have to sell my Cars... not that I've got the job yet though. I thought If I can pull a capri apart how hard Can a bike be!?!? Will keep you posted on the garage tomorrow and hopefully start using it. I saw another Capri user on here made a battery relay so he could turn the battery off from the passenger compartment. I might do this soon as I don't trust electrics on old cars and I want to use it more. Choke wise I kicked it up for about 30 secs/ 1 min today (couldn't be bothered to go anyway but wanted to make sure it ran for tomorrow) and found that pumping the accelerator doesnt do anything to the choke/ close it as people say to me. will need to sort that out as its annoying opening the K&N every time i want to start it Maybe a new Biometric spring will sort it ... if not ... manual choke.

Got the Car back today. The garage said my work on the brakes was fine and the problem with my brake might be a rubber brush going from the master cylinder to to brake pedal. Other than that the only thing I could do is upgrade the front struts to 2.0 disc brake.
Main problems today was on the way back from filling up post garage the electrics went a bit nuts and I lost indicators, temp and fuel (the gauges were how i noticed ) Also, the rear of the bonnet, passenger side has dropped . I don’t know what that’s about but I’m hoping it’s not rot based 🤮

Electrics sound like a fuse, they were always notorious for being hopeless, I would take them all out and clean up the fuses and brass posts in the fusebox.
Bonnet I would suspect someond has leant on it while working on the brakes, probably just moved on the hinge bolts, lossen them and adjust it plus check they are all tight afterwards.
For the brakes you could try something like greenstuff pads, they give more bite for a given pedal effort.

2.8i (assume a typo as yours is already a 2.0) discs use the same calipers but with spacers in them as the discs are vented. I wouldn't bother I noticed no difference when I fitted them on my old car.

For the electrics I would check the fuses and the earth points for the dash as one bad earth can give an intermittent fault.
For the brakes I would get a nos Servomaster cylinder you could fit one from an Escort Mk2/3 or 4, Mk1/2 Fiesta, Sierra or Transit the last two being the easiest to get a lot of Fords what ever age they were made in are parts bin cars and the parts interchange (sometimes with a little hole modding).

Cheers Josh Hey Josh , I think I read somewhere that 2.8 vented discs on 2.0 struts was the best you could do for a disc upgrade. The garage said the discs are poor on this car but, they’re those top hat ones and about £150 last time I looked (i think form burtons). Had a quick look today and I think the bonnet has moved slightly . I guess it’s something to do with being at the garage as I’ve had it up and down like a yo-yo and it’s been fine. Re electrics , I’ll go over the earths . I’m wondering if it’s fuse no 7 as that has all 3 of those items on that circuit. The indicator stick is playing up and not cancelling etc so I’m wondering if that is disturbing the circuit too... I’ll investigate tomorrow. Darkspeed just seen what your talking about haha he’s a fan of the Car... I think he was just multitasking

Discs are around £20 each, if you buy a spacer kit for the caliper you can fit 2.8 vented discs but the brake feel won't change, all the vented bit does is reduce fade after repeated braking. I have the same set up as you on my TR7V8, never had a problem with fade.
If it's not leaking and the brakes are not dragging I can't see the master cylinder having any effect, new discs and decent quality pads would be my starting point.

I’m running green stuff pads on mine, and they seem to stop it pretty well. You need to give the brake pedal a good hard push as it’s not over assisted like modern cars, but I prefer that and find the brakes inspiration confidence.
I do have vented disks on mine...but I’ve never had brake fade with the Capri. I did end up with warped discs when I first had it...but at the time I was using it a lot more fully loaded so the brakes were getting more of a hammering. If i were to do it again, it’s stick with solid discs. Pad area is the same and discs are a LOT cheaper!
I’ve only ever had one car’s brakes properly fade on me. That was on my Passat...5 people, luggage and the B947 Cairn O’ Mount road (my fav road ever!! It’s on the way to my parents and I’ve been driving it since I was 17). Being an auto didn’t help as a lot harder to use engine braking.

Ahh ok i see. From everything i'm reading/capri world facebook its 3.0 brakes or nothing for this type of 3.0 suspension leg so everyone ditches them annoyingly. I guess if there was a specially machined adapter I could come across that would be great. I think I'll just used the Green stuff pads and get on with it for a bit.

I didn't realise it had 3.0 brakes, given they are pretty much the same diameter and shallower offset it would be possible to make an adaptor to take the 2.0 discs (this is what I have done on the TR) but that will probably cost more than the 3.0 discs.

Took the Capri out for a little run on Sunday. I went to a country park car park thinking it would be quite and I could take some nice pics and videos... it was rammed!! I was hoping to get over 30mph as well but that wasn't a goer due to traffic. I was nice to get out a bit further in it. When I got back I took my misses round the block in it as shes never been in it since i've bought it haha. The verdict was It smells burny and is loud but also pretty cool. I filmed a little bit of me driving around although the phone doesnt pick up the depth of the exhaust note. (apologies if you don't like Dwight Yoakam It was the only CD to hand) I might whip off the rocker cover or order a new gasket as its leaking from the back. I've tightened it up a little bit more and cleaned the gearbox housing with gunk but its still there. I think this isnt helping the burning smell haha

You've probably overtightened it and distorted it, it's easily done

The bloody torque wrench I decided to use ended up bending it slightly. I don't know why i didnt do it by hand... just trying to do it "properly". Annoying as i've got to take it back off and bash it with a hammer a little after painting it. oh well. could be worse.

Bought some new wheels on ebay for this today... feel free to guess till I pick them up haha. I got them fairly cheap but i'll need some new 205 tyres... hopefully give this a more street machine look maybe I can do some burnouts with the old tyres.

The old wheels will look good on your Escort. It used to have them on there but the offset was a bit much for the wheel bearings. Annoyingly I just looked at the photos of the Wheels I've bought on ebay and it looks like 3 of them are clones or ally cats maybe! might have to contacted the seller and say put them back on ebay please as they we're listed at Slot Mags Alloys unless I could sell the odd one. although they might still be ok I guess for £80 just don't need any more problems. I was rushing before a job interview this morning and just bidded.
