MOT 13/09/19
117k miles
The front end has been lowered on lowering springs, the rear has sagged due to the Nivomats being old & somewhat dead. The offside rear is high in the photos because of the uneven ground. It has polybushes on the rear panhard rod and the front strut to track control arm (spaceship bushes). I think the inner tie rods have a tiny bit of play, the steering isn't quite as direct as it used to be.
I fitted new discs & pads all round last year when I bought the car. The brakes work great.
Also done last year was a service with oil & filter, air filter, spark plugs, new valve cover gasket, and cleaned the distributor points. About 2 months ago I fitted new alternator and power steering belts.
It has a 10psi actuator on the turbo, and I can also give you a "turbo plus" system which came with the car, and was working when I removed it. To be honest I wish I left it on.
It has 2.5" BSR cat-back exhaust which is fairly quiet but creates a nice burble. The front sections are a little rusty, and the other day I had to repair the flange between the downpipe and the cat. It's fine now though.
The engine and gearbox feel great, as per the relatively low mileage. It has a 1041 rear axle, however the locking diff doesn't appear to be working, not in the recent snow at least!
The air conditioning worked for one day last year, after I had it re-gassed, then I think the compressor packed up, but I don't know for sure. To add to this, I left the air-con belt off because the tensioner has seized.
Apologies for the engine bay being a bit dirty. The previous owner wasn't keen on cleaning, or spending money on the poor thing. I had to put some serious effort in to make the outside look good again, and I never got around to properly tackling the engine bay.
As the pictures show there's some bizarre body issues on this car. One of the previous owners clearly tried to carry things on the roof, and I assume the straps caused the damage at the sides of the roof. The top of the spoiler doesn't have much paint, but the plastic underneath appears to be grey so it's not extremely obvious. I had the rear windows tinted. The rear lights are new, as are the front sidelights, it has a funky moose on the egg crate grille, and some "940" decals on the sides. It's a car that looks great from a distance, but not so much up close.
Underneath it's a bit rusty. Having poked around, I believe it has a good few years left. At the last MOT it wasn't mentioned as a problem. But be aware that it's far from perfect.
The tyres have some life left but they're not all matching. I would expect the new owner to put some nicer wheels on anyway! (I had Propus wheels from a C70 fitted, but decided to keep them)
Obviously it has grey half-leather seats. The interior in general is not perfect, it was a workhorse. The carpet has been removed from the drivers foot-well because there's a pesky water leak, albeit a very small one. I traced this to the hole on the bulkhead that the bonnet release cable goes through, which has rusted out. I put some sealant around it as a quick fix but it hasn't totally stopped the leak.
The Sony CD player is sitting loose but doesn't move around. I still have the original radio if you prefer.
I hope this comes across as an honest description. I'd love for the car to go to another Volvo nut who will continue to improve it, rather than sending it to an early grave. I'm selling it because I've moved to the dark side, and bought a C70 T5.
