I'm just having a little rant so let me apologise in advance. I am selling a car at the moment, a car that I believe is priced so low I am virtually giving it away, I have had nothing but whats your best price numptys and yes I'll have it and then radio silence. I even had a guy give me £100 deposit and then change his mind the following day all without ever seeing the car! Now I don't mind people chancing their arm that's fine but what really grinds my gears is people who don't get back if they don't like the answer they are given. For example somebody on Ebay just offered me a low amount and I politely counter offered with what is still a ridiculously low amount, now I get it, he doesn't want to pay that but at least a reply with something along the lines of "okay, it's a little too much for me, thanks" or similar. I mean that's just manners isn't it? You wouldn't just stop talking to someone face to face and walk off mid conversation now would you! Is it a weird modern phenomenon of faceless non genuine people wasting time or am I just an old git moaning for the sake of it? Probably the latter...... penance for rant:

plain and simply ebay is just full of numpties!
i had a small boat up for £100..cheap at that...and some merchant banker offered me £20 "coz it'll cost me loads to come and get it"!! i told him i'd rather torch it first. in the end an ad in the local shop window sold it for full asking without a quibble.

you don't get manners on eBay any more! I am DREADING putting my mk1 cortina up for sale in a few weeks time, I'm just going to mentally ignore the ones I think are rude obnoxious arrogant and downright just timewasters. AND I will request proof of ID for anyone visiting to view the car ..!
But yes its much like that on eBay, manners are few and far between, I mean you are right it 100% is because they can make a stupid offer and not think of it again. still I suppose its less time wasted than a guy actually doing that on your drive in real life?? Horses for courses I say sadly.

It's to do with the anonymity the internet affords people if you ask me...not just on eBay but Twitter, Facebook, even on here sometimes...people type things they would never say face to face safe in the knowledge they'll never have to deal with any consequences.

Probably the latter...... penance for rant: I don't think its technology to blame, it certainly contributes, i think its a case people think they are entitled and are owed something by the world these days so they are just plain rude Mrs fp popped up for sale an as new CD player which was used for 2 months and was in the box for £30, a guy offered £10 and when she politely declined due to the condition, he got curse word and gave abuse through message because she didn't accept this reinforces why I don't sell to the general public and I only deal with folks though forums I frequent

My recent experiences of selling on Facebook/eBay are just as everyone else described. Rude people, sending silly offers, often just a number! How hard is it even to say, Hi, I like your car, would you take ... Also I love it when people ask for a different price for cash. What else are they going to pay with, I'm hardly going to be accepting cheques and I certainly didn't offer finance in the advert! I need to put my little 2003 Mini runaround up for sale, but I'm dreading the idiots I'm going to get at the price I'm looking for it.
I love buying cars/parts, I hate selling cars/parts.

The trouble is there are so many chavs now and there is literally so much stuff for sale , far more than buyers . And the fact that gumtree facebook etc are filled with people either making money on the side or full time under the radar . You literally cannot buy a car around here for 10 miles without them being sold by some dodgy chap or a 18 year old who is into ragging Chinese pitbikes .
And the sheer number of these people around here means they created a false idea of what something worth . Clapped out heaps which have obviously been run into the ground go for at least £800 even though they will need probably the same to get through the next mot . If the occasional private seller comes up with a resonable car it will be ought by these lot and sold for double !
And yes , it is so bad you just get a number without a £ sign .

If anyone thinks selling stuff is bad(and I would agree with them), then don't try giving stuff away. Even with hard to find parts, if you're not prepared to recondition, deliver, fit, adjust and restore the rest of the car at your expense, you're the curse word!!

Way too many Keyboard Warriors out there. Recently got rid of both a car and a van on bookface,( both with a years MOT). . Was dreading it. Van went to the first respondent. Decent chap who didn't haggle after a test drive where I stated all the bad points. Car went to a total curse word who felt the need to arrive with ten of his closest tyre kicker friends. Paid no problem, but car still untaxed,so obviously that's how he rolls 🙄
Just ignore the total plonkers....😊

Yes.
Never have there been so many different ways to be ignored.
I recently sold a pair of ww1 german binoculars. They had the initials scratched badly on them 'SS'.
Got my only bad feedback after 1900 good ones due to this piece of pond life saying that they were not 'genuine' german secret service.
Technology unfortunately brings us into contact with very odd people that otherwise 20yrs ago we would never, ever come into contact with.

I drive most cars until they're only fit for scrap purely because I can't be hacked with knobends whinging. Friend of mine sold a vectra b cheap, and the fella brought it back to his house every time something went wrong with it, put me right off.

It has got bad, and that's just trying to sell stuff on Facebook. It either goes within a day or you have 12m worth of time wasters until you either give it away ot bin it. My bookface message list is full of people asking "Good afternoon, is the item still available?" With my reply of Yes, and that's it never to be heard from again.
Reyt CBA with it now but I also want the stuff sold and out of the way lol.
Anyone want a set of 15" Porsche teleidails with nearly new tyres and 5x100 to Porsche adapters? 🤣

I'm scrapping my Rover 75 on Tuesday even though there is sod all wrong with it purely for the amount of time wasters and illiterate rude people I have encountered trying to sell it... AVOID eBay and gumtree like aids.

Simples BUT the big but... its got so much more audience, so sometimes it can be worth the agro just to get the sale? but as I have grown up and got older, I do appreciate my time as well. Could call it a catch 22?

Pistonheads and Autotrader gave me no issues at all whilst selling - Couple of the usual stupid offers and Nigerian princes, but it would almost be wrong if there wasn't

EBay attracts penniless dreamers like jam attracts wasps. They see something they fancy without considering how they can fund it, where they will keep it or what their wife/whatever will think. They keep the act up to the end, carrying it through their “Mike Brewer” phase of wheeler-dealin’ and offering 25% of the asking price before finally shooting their bolt all over the advert and realising they’re just a penniless dreamer....
I HATE selling cars.
