So here is my new “family” retro. I wanted something that I could enjoy with the family. Use to go on trips at the weekend, be reliable, practical and not so loud that the wife refuses to get in it lol.
I’ve always had a thing for the mk4 Escort. Must be my age but I’ve always wanted and lusted after an XR3i (one day)

Last night while idly browsing the Facebook retro pages someone offered this for sale in the comments of a post asking what’s about for under £2k? I liked the look of it so sent the lad a message. And we agreed to swap motors. My £300 mr2 for his Escort! The only issue was he was 200 miles away... but on route for my work in the morning. So I quickly checked insurance, no issues there and went to bed excitedly dreaming of 80’s retro fords which seem to becoming a bit of a thing now after my mk2 fiesta purchase 😂
Woke up early and went and collected the mr2 from my garage and stuffed all my work gear in and headed off 200 miles from Sheffield to clackton in sea. Arriving mid morning and everything checked out and we were both happy with the deal. I got a set of five Sierra pepper pots and new exhaust thrown in which could prove a nice little OEM+ upgrade down the line.
We did the paper work and I sorted the insurance and tax and went to set on with the rest of my journey... now I had 125miles to go to where I work. But then would have to use the car for the next 10 days as a daily and then drive 250 miles home. Not too sure of the mechanical stature of the escort I had a great plan....
Whilst I didn’t need to be at work till the following day I decided I would drive the escort back north 200 miles to store in my garage and then jump in my diesel daily and drive the 250 miles back south to work! This taking my total up to 650 for the day 😂
Sounds like a good idea right.....
Well fortunately everything went smoothly. The escort drove faultlessly if not a little slow! God CVH engines on carbs aren’t the most revvy things are they!
Nearing my destination and having made good time I thought I’d stick the car in for an MOT as it had 28 days left at least this would give me a good idea as to what it needed so I could plan my attack. Driving passed a garage is never used before but the advertised price wasn’t crazy £39.99 I thought why not! A bit dearer than my usual garage but it was on route so I’d give it a go! Very pleased I did as they had space there and then! And we’re very good with ‘older’ cars. And nicely to my surprise the tester congratulated me on a solid purchase and it passed with flying colours. So it now has 13 months ticket and a very happy owner.
Drove the rest of the way home. And stuck it in the garage next to it’s stable mate.
I’ve not really got any pictures as it’s been a long day but here are some from the seller
And one on the pepper pots
Can’t wait to start wasting money on this now
