Long story short I kind of accidentally came into possession of this car about a year ago when a friend lost his storage for it. Like my friend before me all I did with this for a while was store it and occasionally think about doing something with it. The time has come to finally do something with it. This is the car as I got it It was very original, a bit tatty but as far as I can tell solid in the right places. It ran and drove but the front brakes were very "sticky". Both headlights were shot. All tyres were dead. There was a coolant leak that my friend thought was the rad (he gave me a new one with it) but this turned out to be a rotten heater matrix. It was at this point I parked it up on a farm I rent a bit of storage at and pretty much forgot about it. Every now and then I'd buy something for it as it popped up, but the car sat unloved for quite some time. A bit of Google digging showed that it had been laid up for something silly like 27 years. Had a couple of owners in more recent years with at least one of them being on this very forum. In fact the car had been for sale on here twice in the past. Some pics from its previous life found on Google

I did intend to dedicate this post to this things I've done to it so far and add lots of interesting photos of the aforementioned things... but I've just realised that most of those pics are on my other phone that's at work. The best I can do is list what I've done and throw in some random pics of it from the farm that I have on this phone. Front brakes. I tried stripping the calipers down and getting them to work properly but they were pretty much dead. In the end I replaced them with caliper from a 306 D-turbo and replaced the orgial solid 266mm disks with some vented 305 ones that I found on ebay. I'm currently waiting on a pair of front hoses to come before I can bleed the system up and see how they work. Wiper motor. The original one was seized solid. I tried hitting it with a hammer, but all that did was break the magnets and make it smoke. Iirc it's a 306 wiper motor on it now but I had about 3 different ones I was messing around with trying to get to fit properly. Wipers work fine now tho. Alternator. This wasn't charging so I had it refurbished at a local automotive electronics place. Radiator. There wasn't anything wrong with the old one but I had a new one so fitted it. Heater matrix. This was totally shot and I can seem to find a new one. I've bypassed it for now while I hunt for one I can modify to fit. Headlights. I've fitted 2 NOS items from eBay. Drivers side front window mech. This had rotted out meaning the window kept dropping down. I couldn't find a new one so I had to make one. The orgial carb was fubar so I've modified a weber 32/36 to fit. I haven't had the time to get up to it and try it yet but I can't see how it couldn't be an improvement over the solex that was on it. Service. I've done oil, filters, plugs/leads ect. Still need to do the cam belt. It looks pretty much new with no real signs or wear but it's not a gamble I wanna take. That's pretty much up to date. Hopefully it will be moted by the end of the month. I'm already hoarding parts for the next phase of the build which will be more interesting that this one, but that's a update for another time. Here's some random pics of it in its current resting place. Only just broken in 😉

Nice 305, A volvo 340 heater matrix will fit if you're stuck.

Cheers I'll look into that. Been trawling through Google searching for random heater matrix measurements trying to find something that could work

Always liked the shape of these, very well proportioned and purposeful. Sounds like this one stands a good chance of surviving in your hands. Good stuff!

The car should survive, not sure about the original engine tho. Trying to get it on the road and reliable for the trip down to the weekender. Once that trip is out the way I wanna play a little game of "what breaks first", 250k engine or £70 Chinese turbo

Took it for an mot on Saturday. I knew of a few bits that would need sorting but wanted to get a proper to do list. Didn't do too badly for a for a car that's been off the road for nearly 3 decades. I've had worse failure sheets on customer cars that are in daily use 😂 I didn't bother cleaning it because my mot testers averages flash before his eyes every time I turn up in some sort of 'straight out of a barn' shed. Made it the couple of miles to the test with no major dramas. It cut out a couple of times while stopping at junctions and seemed a little flat so the carb needs tweeking still. I'll do that once I have my wideband in it A nearly 2 hour test later, and the fail sheet wasn't half as bad as expected Some of the fails Front inner wing Bottom of rear quarters When I got it back to The farm I pulled a rear drum off to see what was going on with the brakes, with the drum off and the peddle pressed the slaves did nothing at all. I'm gonna replace the rear slaves and flexis, but I've got a feeling the problem could be something a little further forward. It also turns out the drivers side headlight that took nearly 6 months to find is LHD. The joys of ebay buying. I'll get the parts ordered and then get the car moved down to my unit to start properly working on it.

That's not too bad a fail sheet then considering, like you say ive seen worse on much newer cars!
A tip on the headlights if you didn't know they normally have an arrow marking cast into the front of the lens, looking from the front it points right for right hand drive or points left for left hand drive
