So I got offered a really cheap Corsa B today, they have never really been on my radar. I have drove a few but that's about it. Apart from the normal rust issues, do they suffer badly form anything else?
It would be a 5 door, 1.2 GLS face lift model.

Just rust and timing chain issues if its X1.2XE engine, I guess being a 5 door it might have been an elderly persons car so it may have been looked after?

That's exactly what it is, its my neighbours car, 5 doors, no idea what the engine is beyond a 1.2l has 46k on the clock and some MOT left, has never failed in all the years I've known them to drive it and the clutch isn't hanging out of it lol.

My first ever company car was 2 year old corsa b 1.2 gls 5dr in burgundy, that I inherited with a promotion. Came preinstalled dents and scrapes! was a piece of c$ap. No power steering, keep fit windows but electric mirrors. But it just kept going and going. I tried to kill it but couldn't. In the follow 18 months I had it I put 80k on it, a fair bit of which it was pulling a twin wheel car trailer with a type 2 bus on, slowly.

I had one, one of the last basic cars imo, 1.2 Merit with manual everything, and only died when the previous owners tragic wiring behind the dash shorted and caught fire. With my manager in it. On my way to work. Fun.

Bought a 1999 1.2 5 door club last year, It’s got 70k miles but otherwise sounds very similar to yours We have a little bubble of rust round the near side rear door, other than that swim is tidy but with 95 year old driver wear all over We changed the timing chain, and the gaskets and the head gasket whilst in there. It was a bit mayonnaisey around the cap (which I was told they are prone to because of condensation and short journeys) but the gasket between timing chest and water pump was going on ours which is where a small amount of water was getting into the bottom end. Other than that it’s pretty good, ours cost £170 with 10 months ticket... there is a bit of a thread in readers rides for it. Good luck

Well I done it, got the keys yesterday. 2000 5 door Corsa B, 1.2 16v Ecotech in Burgundy with 47k on the clocks. Ugly as sin but it's going to be of great use as we're moving and need 2 cars.

Whahay, got some time today to check this wee wagon over. Checked the brakes over, fluids, tyres. MOT is in a week. Found a fault with a bad earth when you used the brakes and indicators all the lights on the back flashed lol. Cleaned the contacts and the pins and everything seems to be good. Wire brushed the sills and reapplied stone chip. Front on both sides have already been welded. So here she is, bask in her horrid-ness... Next will be get her through the MOT, paint the wheels and driver her!

I had a 3dr 1.2LS as my second car. Still miss it, even though if I drove it today I'd probably cry...!

Ooooh a GLS... does that mean it has velour seats?
My mum had a P reg 1.2 8v merit for years. It was unbelievably basic. Didn’t even have a glivebox! Was awful to drive and painfully slow. But it never let her down

This was mine, nicknamed Dave as he was the same colour as David Dickinson. Basic motoring, but a lot of fun for a 50bhp car. Killed by someone's shoddy dash rewire.

I have my Corsa B GSi as my fun/project, I love them, nothing amazing about them at all but I wanted one since I was a kid in the 90's.
A couple of years ago I bought a 1999, 1400 Sport in lovely, original condition but a non runner for £200.
I replaced the head and fitted 2 rear wheel bearings. My wife daily'd it, we put 8000 miles on it and I sold it in September for £1000 without any more than a post asking what it was worth.
Ultimate in trouble free, easy going motoring.

But it never let her down It doesnt have velour seats, it does have a tilt and slide sunroof, electric mirrors, electric windows in the front, power steering and front and rear headrests. Oh and a piece of advice I remember, get unde the back and spray a load of ptfe or something all over the curse word un-sheathed handbrake cable.... you’ll see what I mean! I know what you mean about the break cables, I was under the car on Saturday, pulled the rear drums off cleaned all, checked nothing was weeping, cleaned down the brake pipes and flex pipes and seen the bare handbrake cables, so cleaned round them and smothered them in grease and packed the little guide full of grease too. Appreciate the advice. Welcome to any other Advice it goes for MOT on Saturday evening. Replaced the wiper blades last night as they just made a mess off the screen. I have noticed the rear beam squeaks a bit, dampers all seem fine, goes up and down smooth and the springs are not broken. Sounds a bit like jumping on a bed?

Most likely rear beam bushes. Hopefully there isn’t enough play to fail on those.
That handbrake cable design is shocking. I only know that because my mums failed it’s mot on handbrake efficiency, luckily I managed to free it off but I dare say regular lubing wouldn’t go amiss

No one has every complained about too much lube...
I was thinking it was the beam bushings. Will see what happens. If it passes and really annoys me ill maybe drop the beam and give them a clean or a drop of grease.
Otherwise its a smart wee car, wheels need a lick of paint but the inside is spotless. Its kind of nice lol.
