Hi everyone, apologies for a picture heavy post lol...
I thought I would make a build thread of sorts. I owned a couple of MR2's a few years back, a lovely Rev5 in black which was modified with Ispiri CSR4 alloy wheels, Coilovers etc and a Rev2 G-Limited import which was a little rough around the edges but still came out nice after some restoration.
I moved away from MR2's as I thought I wanted something more "normal", yet nothing really filled the void left by the MR2's. So earlier this year I decided I was going to find another one. I didn't set any requirements, just to find the cleanest, nicest one I could within my budget.
Long story short, I found a local MR2 on Facebook marketplace of all places, which was actually owned by my girlfriend's brothers friend! So after a good look around the car and a test drive, a deal was agreed and I was a happy MR2 owner again.
Mods it came with in the advert: HSD Coilovers, Mongoose stainless exhaust system, RamAir induction kit, Sparco steering wheel and boss kit, 16" Fox alloy wheels, polybushed throughout and loads of new parts fitted.
It had a few things I wanted to change, the front plate had been removed and replaced with a sticker plate which I didn't really like, and the front badge was a different colour to the rear and it needed a really good machine polish and some paint correction.
I spent a whole weekend correcting the paintwork, repainting the wiper arms and doing other small jobs on the car including changing the induction kit for the standard airbox but with a HKS panel filter fitted inside. This was the outcome...
Looking a lot better, but there were still bits that needed addressing. The car had recently had some HSD Coilovers fitted but they were so bouncy it made the car almost a chore to drive, so I adjusted and set them up from scratch test driving the car after each adjustment until I was happy with the ride.
I then looked around online to find another set of rear lights as the ones on the car had been lacquered over at some point and were in a bad way (not really showing on the photos). As luck would have it, a local specialist had a rare pair of brand new lights with the clear sides and indicator lenses. I bought these, and also ordered new clear fronts (to replace the crystal ones that came with the car) and some clear sides to match the rear lights.
I also wanted to change the wheels, as a local wheel shop were doing some good deals for Black Friday so I decided on some Rota Grids in white.
This is how the car sat with the new lights, and the Rota wheels...
The car came with a Sparco dished steering wheel which I didn't really like, so changed it for a Nardi Personal black suede wheel with red stitching, which looked a lot better and was nicer positioned to drive with (for me).
However, I wasn't satisfied with the look of the car. It still looked too similar to how it did when I bought it (to me), despite getting positive comments from friends. So I decided to order myself the wheels I had wanted since day 1, but didn't want to spend so much on... a set of Enkei RPF1 8x17 and 9x17 with 215/40/17 and 245/40/17 Yoko AD08R super sticky tyres.
Now I was happy! And this is how the car sat...
And a few more pictures from a little drive out, after a rare dry day!
Got the new engine lid back from the paint shop...
Also fitted the supplied decals to the wheels, and went and took more photos lol
Then on New Years day I gave the MR2 a wash and because there was a rare glow in the sky I thought I would take the car for a drive out across the moors.
If anyone wants to follow updates on instagram, my account is @thatredmr2 :thumleft: but I will update this thread as well.
