Sorry for this non-retro topic, but I would like to know, who of you has some serious driving experience, more than just an occasional test drive of a tesla or its competitors? I drive a fully electric car six days a week, about 25 kilometers a day, so I can say I made up my mind. Being a postman I drive a lwb renault kangoo van like this:  At first it was a bit weird, turning the key and hear nothing but a beep and then push the let´s-go-pedal still not hearing anything but the tyre noise. Getting faster you hear some buzzing, but that´s all. Many say they would miss an engine noise, but not me. It drives like a "normal" automatic car. And it eccalerates quite good, no matter if empty or fully loaded. So I am favourably impressed and as long as long distances are not important I could see myself in a fully electric car. Only problem for me would be access to a plug socket at home, being a street parker. As penance for this hardly retro-ish topic, I show you some electric retro (design) cars:    |

Ha ha leccy Trabant, love it, that’s one extreme to another. From the ‘smoker’ to ‘nowt’
In answer to the question though, only ever driven one leccy, my mate has an i3. Pretty decent for a daily runaround, but they are still way too expensive

I've driven a handful from a Golf to and i8 although, unlike yourself, not over any great distance or period. I like them. I do miss the noise but I can live with that. I'd have one in a heartbeat. I'd quite happily take over a project if something like this were available at a reasonable cost (not going to happen)  But on the same note I'm quite taken by Honda's (and others) retro offerings.   |

Would drive it like this or with a transparent acrylic (?) body thrown over all that tube work.  Looking at this, would a change to engines without the need to care for fuel consumption, areodynamics of the exterior etc. bring us back to beautiful designed cars of past decades? |

Yes I have a leaf which is my daily - will always have an EV in the fleet now. Its not just the lack of noise, its the lack of vibrations which is very pleasant imho. I have done about 36k miles in 3 years
I still have other stuff to play with if the urge becomes to great though !

It's actually quite an old build judging by the timeline of the source so someone was obviously on the ball or just liked out-there thinking. I'm not sure if it ever got fully clothed as the link to the original build thread requires joining and I've not found any other pics of it bar the skeletal stage. And yes, I'd be happy to roll it just as is (in sunnier climes though.) |

Brother in law has had a Renault Zoe for a couple of years now, I’ve driven it a few times and I quite like it, like a big Sinclair C5 with a roof! 😂

I thought it was cool, much like the morgan EV having never driven an EV I'd give it a go, would be interesting to see how well the battery would keep up with my commute. Both morgan and "isetta" wouldn't work for me because I have to cross 26 speedbumpers everyday and the "third" wheel would really get on my nerves, the "isetta" also reminds me of codsworth from Fallout haha.

Really want a Honda UrbanEv.
Had a short drive in one of the works ev vans and thought it was ok if a little slow, then realised I wasn't pushing pedal hard enough. I expect I got a 0 score for that journey (we are trackered)
Was really surprised how quickly it went from 20 to 40 lol

I've driven quite a few, in terms of driving they are great, at the moment the key issues are range (particularly if you use heater or air con in which case you can easily end up halving the published number), if you can charge it up (the UK is woefully short on public charging) and purchase cost. If you can make these work for your lifestyle go for it.
As for battery life, most of the data I have seen seems to indicate they will degrade rather than fail, so perhaps you might lose 20% of the range when it is 10 years old which probably isn't the end of the world for most people.
