EQUIPMENT

Factory options; Climate Pack consisting of; Tinted glass all round, gradient band windscreen, opening front quarter windows. Dealer options; Locking fuel cap.
EXTERIOR
This sporting Fiesta XR2 finished in rare and desirable Caspian Blue, (Code 3 3), remains exactly as Ford intended and in superb condition. The paintwork boasts a deep shine and uniform finish, and all factory panels are straight with both front wings clearly date stamped May 1983. Light markings can be seen of very close scrutiny, namely some touched in chips within the driver’s door graphics and two pea size dings to the passenger door, barely detectable. All decals are original Ford fitment and have remained well preserved, as have all further trim sections, badges and factory Securit glass. Originality seekers will be delighted to see the correct Ford Hella spot lamps and headlamps as well as genuine Ford rear light clusters fitted. An iconic sporting Ford left exactly as intended, truly special.
INTERIOR
The interior in this remarkable example remains in beautiful untouched condition, even down to the Ford P21 push button stereo, supplying dealer tax disc holder and scarce straight and uncut rear parcel shelf! The ‘Storm’ and Crushed Velour interior in Shark Grey, (Code KW), is beautifully clean and the seats have retained firm shape with no damage. The Shark Grey loop pile carpet is clean as are the Grey Mylar sidewall and rear quarter finishers. The red laser line around the instrument binnacle is vibrant and the soft finish dashboard is perfect with no cracks. The unworn steering wheel and gear knob have prominent veins and to further delight keen scrutineers, there are even May 1983 date labels to the seat belts and service stickers still in the door shuts. A delightfully period unspoilt interior, reminiscent of the 1980’s hot hatch phenomenon.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The time proven transverse mounted 1600 OHV engine with Weber twin-venturi carburettor develops an ample 84BHP, which in such a lightweight and nimble car achieves a top speed of 105mph and 0-60 in just 9.3 seconds. The engine bay is clean and proudly displays factory plates, stickers and correct manifold heat shield. The four speed synchromesh gearbox with remote shift is light and exact. A real ‘smile on your face’ experience.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Special ‘pepperpot’ 13” X 6” alloy wheels are all matching 1983 date stamped and are in excellent condition whilst displaying prominent Ford emblems and manufacture raised markings. A few very light markings are visible. Matching Hankook 185/60 R13 tyres have good tread remaining and the spare alloy wheel still wrapped in the original Pirelli P6 rubber. The original jack and brace are present and the boot wheel housing incorporates the correct ‘bulged’ rear lower valance designed to accommodate the enlarged alloy wheel compared with lower Fiesta models. The dual line servo assisted brakes with ventilated 9.4” front discs and 7.0” rear drums bring the car up to a steady, straight and assured halt.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 4th July 1983 by Ford Main Dealer, C.D. Bramall of Shipley, this superb example has covered just 48,841 miles from new. The previous owner is a long-standing Ford fan and member of the XR Owners Club, and having owned the car for nine years has decided reluctantly to sell for health reasons. The comprehensive history file includes the original C.D. Bramall document wallet housing the service book, handbooks, guides and special XR2 Operating Supplement. The original service book contains a mass of stamped entries along with service invoices and receipts in addition to virtually every MOT certificate dating back to 1988 to warrant the mileage.
Two main Ford keys operate the ignition and all locks and both original petrol cap keys are present along with code tags and two aerial pullers! Completing the history file is XR Owners Club literature, letters and publications as well as previous V5 documents to assist in tracing ownership history. A highly collectable classic hot hatch Ford, entirely worthy of its cult status.
MOT December 2019, HPI Clear.
