looks very similar construction to the TR7, the large round holes are I believe paint drain holes for when they were dipped in the factory. On the TR to minimise the upside down welding I repaired the floor and inner sill from above then cut the outer sill and lower wing off part way down repaired the sill base and strengtheners from the outside before finally welding a new lower part of the outer sill and wing in.

Well, ive got a proper deadline now, so I need momentum. Ive set my self the target of driving this to the NEC Classic and restoration show in March. Eeek! This evening I spent about and hour removing the remaining seats, centre console and carpet. Good news is that the driver's side of the floor is all good. Just wants some minor tidying. Nothing scary. More good news is that I got a peek through a massive rusty hole in the nearside sill, and can see the captive nuts for the trailing arm. They look perfect. Massive sigh of relief as that was a proper involved repair when I did the Police car. Photos. Video

Started on removing the fuel tank tonight. Proper cold. It was actually frosty on the car cover by 5:30 pm! Got the rear of the car raised and started cleaning up and loosening the mounting bolts. 3 came off ok, one has dissolved to nothing so I will have to cut it. Also drained the tank into a tub by cutting the lower rubber hose. Ill be replacing that anyway. While I was under there I took a look at the suspension and brake lines. No obvious problems so fingers crossed all that will take minimal work to get it to MOT standard. Last thing I loosened off the filler neck so it should come out fairly easily tomorrow and then I can concentrate on welding in daylight.

I see what you mean about it being a good car before it sat for ages. It looks surprisingly good underneath. Keep plugging away, you're doing well!

Your determination to get this done is really motivational. It's helped me get through some jobs that I would otherwise have put off and I've been pretty happy with my own progress as a result. So cheers for that

I may have missed it but why are you doing this in a car park when you have a big area in front of your house where you worked on the other cars?

I may have missed it but why are you doing this in a car park when you have a big area in front of your house where you worked on the other cars? That garage is an hour and 15 from where I live and work. Its also now full of cars and has two more sat outside. I didn't mean to take on another project but wanted to save this one from the scrap man so impulse bought it. Only option was to keep it at work and fix it up in the evenings.

The weather gods were being kind today (apart form the cold) and I had a whole Saturday 9:30 till 17:00 on the car. I also had a visit from Jason and Simon from the SD1 forum. Jason brought some big bottle so I could get rid of the drained diesel and Simon very generously donated me a new front bumper. It need a couple of tiny repairs but otherwise is really solid. Result. Thanks guys. I started on the bulkhead again. I decided to chop out the bit that had pin holes in it. That turned into a much bigger area than I had anticipated, as per usual. Then I got the wire wheel in to clean out the surface rust in the scuttle. Guess what...more pin holes. Out came Mr Die Grinder and I ended up with another hole. MEGA BALLS. So plated and patched all of that. Once its all seam sealed and painted it will all be hidden. Then I de-rusted the whole area and etch primered it. Trimmed off the remaining flanges from the scuttle, and had to make a localised repair to the windscreen surround at the dashboard. Then turned my attentions to the gold donor panel. This needed a repair where the wiper linkage goes through. The concave bit had rotted, so I chopped it out of the blue donor panel and very carefully welded it in. That was hard as its thin metal, easy to blow holes or warp and it was gusty wind, so had to time each weld perfectly. Then I de-rusted the rear side of it. I then did the final prep to the scuttle ready for the donor panel. I made two little shelves from offcuts of the scuttle and tacked them in so that the donor panel will sit on top. Then when it comes to welding, I wont blow big holes or end up with a straveller hedgehog on the underside and I can grind it flat and know its strong. Last thing, and as it was getting dark I put epoxy all over the scuttle area and dribbled it down the drain port till it was all treated.

Damn that scuttle is looking impressive, but not quite as impressive as how you managed to avoid clouting your phone with the claw hammer

Good work makes me to get onto my Alfa 155 v6 and weld it up Now that is a cool car. Have you got a thread for it? Your be able to see both the Alfa 155’s and the Alfa 33 when you collect the engine. I’m going to do a build thread on all 3 soon

Very very nice. Looks well in white. One of my colleagues has a left hand drive 155 but it was built from factory with Lancia delta integrale running gear? Forget the name for it now, but its rare and mint and utterly gorgeous.
It looks like you have similar repairs to the floor like I do. Whats panel availability like?
