I had one of these for just under a year, same engine although mine was a 3500hd so weighed 3.6t empty, strictly speaking it was a downrated 7t but it was pretty underpowered and the ride was horrible with 10 leaf springs at the back, I used it for towing but my 3.0 Iveco van would leave it for dead! The reputation of the engines meant that I was constantly paranoid about something going wrong, although other than a replacement PMD it was totally reliable, sold it in July and whilst I defiantly miss it I plan to replace it with something Cummins powered when Ive saved up enough, a Ram would be nice but the diesels are serious money, think ill hold out for a converted Defender

So far my bits have either been sourced from the UK (ebay or Amazon) or through ebay Global Shipping (where you pay the import taxes up front). Air lift kit came from Summit cheaper from the US even with the current lousy exchange rate. RockAuto do a UK selling portal but Iβve not tried it yet.

Hi Fronterabob, I'm not sure, I bought it privately from the guy who bought it from the original (post USAF) owner.

Was this on eBay for a while? Hi Fronterabob, I'm not sure, I bought it privately from the guy who bought it from the original (post USAF) owner. There may have been a similar truck to yours on eBay at the SA e time. The easy way to check could be for the person asking to check their browsing history and see if it is the same truck??

New Year update
The truck has some interesting features! One is that the external door handles are made of a substance that is only just stronger than spun cheese, which has resulted in having to order new ones from the states and fitting them; to ensure that I am not left in the embarrassing position of being unable to access my vehicle when I am out and about.
Another, was the mismatched batteries that would start the beast, but would very quickly lose sufficient ooommph to crank if there was any drain on them overnight. This has been rectified with a brace of Optima Red Tops that just ooze power.
Photo's to follow.
On the ordering front, I am looking to get hold of brake shoes, pads and brake cylinders, air and oil filters, a dash insert for an after market head unit, a bed liner and a tonneau cover.

Well, that's been longer than intended!
However, things have happened, Blue Boy has been fully waxoyled, a new lift pump and a relay harness has been installed. Along with an oil and filter change and new brake pads, cylinders and shoes.
On the down side, i need new callipers, serpentine belt and the in-line fuel filter.
Photo's to follow.

Hi Rian, i am recovering thanks, i have probably been visited by the virus, i wouldn't recommend it.
The truck is running well with minor repairs and upgrades, and is now a joy to return to albeit slowly.
I posted the pic because i am always pleased to see yours based on composition and items of interest!
Keep well and keep safe.

Itβs been a longtime with no updates, but this is about to change!
Following an early morning disaster, catastrophic oil loss caused by a fractured oil cooler causing the V8 to shudder to a very undignified halt; I retreated to wallow in denial and self-pity. However, with support from a couple of members on here I have started on the road to recovery.
More to follow soon.

A fully rebuilt replacement 6.5td would have cost me between 5 and 6k from a reputable source, and given the wealth of information on the subject would still have left me with an engine that was prone to low power and yet a large displacement. So, the hunt was on to find a suitable replacement, another diesel, a small block chevy or something really weird!

The plan is to add a mechanical fuel pump and a bigger turbo, have some engine mounts manufactured and slide it in to the truck.

Excellent news, seeing you back, building this.
Glad I did not have to force you to sell it to me.
Looking forward to your updates.
PS: Welcome Back

Thank you Rian, without you and Glen i might still be thinking of leaving the truck in a random field and taking up knitting!
I just need to sort out the Land Rover and the Montesa, sell them and then use the dosh to fund the transplant/conversion.
So if anyone wants an 88" Series 3 that has just become tax free, or a Montesa 315R, give me a shout.

This is what it should look like when fitted.

And this how it looks at the moment! And the other big problem I have, is that it is a real peach to drive. I had a 530D Touring that was very undiesel like, this is not sophisticated in the same way at all; if anything it is like my mapped Volvo V70 tdi. However, the Volvo and the Merc are more fun and engaging to drive, βrortyβ rather than refined.

I have been advised to retain the 480LE transmission, so I will. So, for the next few months I will be saving up for the mechanical pump, the adapter plate, the replacement turbo and the myriad of extras that will make fitting both easier and more importantly neater.
In the mean time I will make a list of all of the bits of the E300 that I will use as upgrades to go on to my E280 (an older car), but at 38k a mere youngster in terms of miles travelled.

This is what it should look like when fitted. Is that an American or local build? Looks factory.
