Does anyone else on here read this mag? its rather gone off the boil I think. I used to rip it open and read it in minutes but now its lost its zap. I have a subscription to get it sent here to France but I'm not going to renew it.
I cant quite put my finger on what it is that is wrong with it though, its just... dull.
I think the tech aspect is missing, its too basic, and there are too few interesting cars and projects featured (as opposed to midgets and spitfires etc, yawn).

They completely changed the editorial team and made head of the buffer brigade Martin Moore head honcho. Bad move. It was heading in the right direction. Now it's just . Then they use sneaky underhand tactics to lure me into buying it (after I'd cancelled the subscription) by putting nice thing on the cover. They had a "guide" to the e30 BMW this month. So I bought, thinking I'd get a few tips. Did they even mention the iS? Did they curse word. What a waste of chops. It was inaccurate and badly put together. As all of the aticles in it seem to be now. Grrrrr. AND another thing...when you write to them to tell them that they've descended into the pits of guff and waffle, do you think they print you letter? No. They plenty happy enough to print loads from pipe-smoking, MGB-owning, cardiagan-wearing nonce-bags with names like Brian Bufferidge, commending them on "how good" the magazine is, and how they'd like to see more (completely serious - no knocking the Britsish stuff) reviews of asthmatic and dated-when-new MGB's and monsterous engineering/marketing blunders like the Austin Princess.

You're right there, the ol' man still buys it (says a lot that old men buy it and nobody else! ;D ;D) and I had a flick through the latest one, their research lately has gone out the window since Hollman, Goldsworthy and others have moved on, (Trabants are NOT FIBREGLASS! ) and that last letter I wrote regarding all the old buffers who were outraged that the Lada Riva was counted as one of the top 100 cars of all time along with the Skoda Estelle (which are both very worthy cars in my opinion!) and suggesting the classic movement needs to loosen up, become more tolerant, and stop chasing Lada, 80's Volvo and other less conformist classics' owners away and we'd all get on better, and what happened? C E N S O R E D ! ! ! I was never subscribed to it (going down to WH Smiths in the town centre in the Imp is all part of the fun! ) but I don't even pick it up anymore!

Practical Classics just makes me yawn nowadays.

It's a shame the CCC is no longer with us as in many ways it's the mag that Retro Cars most closely resembles, seems the market went away and came back again.
I did a weeks freelance work on CCC in the eighties, they had to pry my fingers from the doorframe to get me to leave!

I have this months Practical Classics and cant be bothered to read it. Sort of got it out of habit. To be honest Classics is going down hill without Tim Morgans as editor. I saw Classics in WHSmiths today and for the first time ever I didnt but it.
I do still like Retro and Practical Performace Car.

Bought it every month for years, but gave up recently. Articles seemed badly written, silly mistakes Ect. Same cars tested over and over again (MGB, Minor, P6 Rover Ect, not that I've anything against them) and a third of the mag seemed to be adverts. Just became poor value for money IMHO.

You're right, Practical Classics used to have an eclectic staff on it, Hollman with his Capri and his Merc, Goldsworthy with his Eastern stuff, and they featured all sorts of unusual cars as well as all the more normal stuff like MGBs and Moggie Minors (great cars but do we need to read about them every month?) but now Retro Cars and PPC are the only two that are really worth the cover price. I sometimes get Top Gear if I'm so inclined and occasionaly lorry magazines too, although usually I just nick the lorry ones off my dad since he buys them all the time.

I've never bought that 'classics' mag, i've always found it deadly dull and the absolute definition of 'superficial'.

I used to get practical classics, but don't bother anymore. I also used to get the mini mags, but they seem to be more full of "halfords ram raiders" than ever so now I just stick with Retro Cars and Classic Cars (I like to read about the ones I can't afford! ;D) S

In last months Practical Classics they were advertising for a readers panel for ideas, product testing etc, we should all apply and take over the bloody thing. And on Classics they now have 3 Rover P6s on the Staff fleet, nothing wrong with P6s but 3 of them!! and what happened to the Humber Sceptre that was getting a 2.0 K-Series? no mention for months Practical Classics is probably the best known mag on the market and I think they made a huge blunder in allowing Holman, Goldsworthy etc to leave, they should have expanded the magazine into something the size of Classic Cars and covered both the standard classics and modded retro stuff

Have given up buying PC to, I used to buy it religously but now you know what's in it before you even open it. I just have a quick look at "Rust-in-Peace" in Smiths then put it back.
And you're right sclemow, all it seems to be is a load of 17/18 year olds with their frst car who have slapped a nasty plastic body kit on and have a "998 for insurance reasons but will get a 1380 when they can"

I noticed today that 'Classic And Sportscar' is only 10p more than 'Practical Classics' ...... it comes down to value for money again.

I use to get Practical Classics and Popular Classics back in the mid 90s. There was also a mag called Retro which went on to become Classics. Bet they wished they hadent changed now!
