VW Mk1 Golf GTI For Sale – 1981 Golf GTI registered as 1.6 fitted with Mk3 2.0 8v
Price - £4750 ovno!
138K on Engine (Approx 160K on Shell)
MOT April 2019, V5 Present (1.6 GTI on log book)
2.0 8V AGG code engine with uprated cam from a mk3 Golf GTI, gearbox is a mk2 G60 (~130 to 140Bhp), which is more than enough power in a mk1 Golf.
Car has been extensively modified in the early 2000’s by a previous owner and I was told by guys on the mk1 forum it featured in some VW magazines – painted in Peugeot Blaze Yellow with colour coded body kit, the car sits on new coilovers with mk2 GTI BBS wheels and new Toyo T1R tyres, the boot lid has been smoothed and fitted with pop lock, interior has been stripped and lined with acoustic carpets, OMP bucket seats have been fitted with Willians 4point racing harness, with the dash being from an early Mk2 golf and a nice Kode alcantara steering wheel.
I have owned the car almost 3 years and in my ownership I have replaced the following items.
- KW Coilovers fully adjustable (cost £800)
- OMP racing bucket seats (Drivers is XL & passenger is fibreglass) (cost £700)
- New front pads, discs & Toyo tyres (summer 2017) done less than 1500 miles since.
- Water pump, starter motor, battery, replacement gear linkage (Feb2018)
- Replacement HID headlights (Feb2018)
- Engine bay wiring tidy-up and re-wrap (June2018)
- Janspeed 2 ¾” Exhaust (unused retro 90’s example) (June2018)
I have priced this car to sell (looking online it’s cheapest Mk1 GTI for sale today), if you are in the market for a mk1 Golf GTI (Tin Top) you can expect to pay upwards of £10K for a near original car, finding a road going Mk1 GTI tin top which isn’t a complete basket case or a fully re-built example for mega money is not easy nowadays! This car has been modified and is a 37yr old car, I would say the car is in good condition, but it is not perfect with a few areas of corrosion which were on the car when I bought it and have gotten no worse in my ownership (see pics). As with ALL classic cars they are a labour of love always needing little odd jobs doing on them so please do not expect this to be immaculate, however it has passed its last 3 MOTs without much issue and always gets lots of attention when out and about. No tyre kickers please in no rush to sell as this is a 2nd car and their value continues to go up and up! Only reason for sale is the fact I have a kit car project that needs more time and money spending on it. Viewing car before buying is recommended - Located in Forest Hall, Newcastle upon Tyne.
