This really hurts my head Phil, I am still sorry to see this damage.
Regardless of one accepting and processing acts of nature etc mentally, it is about the sheer amount of work (love if you want) that you have put in on this car since the day you got it.
I trust the insurance will make the recovery a bit easier.

A shame but shows how tough it is to only have that after a building collapsing on it!
Being a curved surface it won't be too difficult to get the dent out then with a small amount of filler re-finish, at least it can still be used while you are sorting everything else out.

Not great to see, but, not a total disaster either (they don't make 'em like they used too !) ...

I trust the insurance will make the recovery a bit easier. Turns out the policy is third party, fire & theft. On my own for repairs. Someone has suggested dry ice on that top dent, to make the metal pull in and koink the dent back out. I can try but the only place locally that sold it was destroyed by the storm.

you might get it out with the glue on pads they use for modern smart repairs, though I suspect the steel is a bit thicker than a modern car. If you are resigned to having to repair the paint you may be able to slip a heat protection mat between it and the head lining and tack some stell tabs on then pull it out with a slide hammer (or if you can borrow the propper nail welding tool for the job)

That roof will need some careful metalworking - best to research how before having a go, it will be quite stretched in places.

Yeah, giving it a thump caused it to wrinkle diagonally across the dent, suggesting a hefty stretch. I think I'll try cooling it off but as it's a compound curve I think it needs to be seen to by sometime with greater skills than I currently posess. Phil

I used to work with an old school body guy and he always used to say he could always do something with curved panels on a minor or beetle it was the flat ones that came in in the 70's which he struggled with. My understanding was that on curved panel he could work the metal to give slightly more curvature which as long as it was done smoothly wasn't noticeable.

It's going to have a dent in for a while, and a big old scratch on the back- war wounds!

Busy day. Just got a $6700 check for repair to the Challenger. Cleared and broke down the back wall of the garage proper, got the lawnmower out and mowed the yard. Renault? No significant damage. I had to bend the antenna straight. Go figure. Phil

Spent the day emptying rooms so the demolition crew cab come in and remove all the parts of the house damaged by the water. Side of the Plymouth isn't too bad overall, which is good. Most of the weight is on this structural wheelie bin. Rummaged in the leaves and junk and found the keys to the Renault so that's good... I don't have another set. Someone may also be interested in buying the Pontiac so that'll remain to be seen. I took it out for a quick run and it behaved perfectly (typical). It had also dropped most of the oil out of the differential on the driveway for no particular reason...

Mixed news, but could be worse I guess. That wheelie bin certainly took one for the team! Surprisingly strong.
The Renault is a survivor all right! As for the Pontiac diff, extreme fear/ anxiety is known to affect bladder control, so I can only assume that something in its extended ordeal was too much for it. I imagine an approaching tornado could have that effect if nothing else……

Thoroughly depressing, we are in Biloxi, Mississippi right now temporarily in a hotel while the house is being gutted internally. Parking garage is full of interesting cars, the road is all up and down with customs and antique vehicles. Mine is sat at home. Actually, I'm writing the For Sale ad for it right now. Such is life.

Sorry to read that Phil. You’ve done such a fabulous job in bringing it back to life, you’ve been a great owner for the car. Are you sure you’re making the right decision? Can you sleep on it for a few weeks?

Rough times mate - I hope things start to get better and that you'll be able to get back home sooner rather than later.
While you're in Biloxi will you be going to Cruisin' the Coast? It might be a nice distraction.

Thar sucks mate - especially as you are right there. Maybe you'll find a few minutes here or there - the distraction would surely be good for what ails you.
Does FEMA kick in or are you all left to your own devices? Is it a struggle to find contractors to work or is it fairly well organized? Sending you best wishes from the west.
