Only because it keeps breaking. But that's to be expected. Spectators always want to see some carnage. John For me it’s the constant improvements made with more patience and skill than I usually manage ! New bits required to fix is always going to be part of it but it is still very much built not bought. I don’t like it when it goes wrong per say but the write up is always enjoyable. And working brakes are always a bonus. James

Got the brakes bled. They don't want to adjust up too well because the shoes are still too large. The car does stop, though. Rear right still deciding to bind when it's been driven a few miles so the anchor needs adjusting. Also need to adjust the handbrake up. Went to get a sandwich for dinner to test it out. Not bad. Weather's turned really quite cold, there's sleet in the air. Heater was actually having trouble keeping up (no recirc, just direct in from outside). Phil

That's now 4000 miles in excess of design spec. The telephone calls "Hi, I'm calling to let you know your car's warranty may be expiring" usually gets referred to this.. Phil

Phil Sort of reminds me of an old-skool Wurlitzer. Now with some RGB LEDs and a little software you could have such an effect while parked up with your sandwich. Link those lights to your ICE and you could have a disco in the car; it's big enough

Today is quite chilly, as demonstrated by the creation of clouds while the engine warmed up a little. Why? Well, I actually had to go to the office today so decided to take the Pontiac. It's chilly until the needle starts to move off the stop. Phil

Grocery store run. It looks out of place! Funny to stand back and watch people's reactions to the car though. Some people crane their necks and then grab phones and take pictures, other people wave, some are completely indifferent to it. It's nice to be back behind the wheel. However, the downpipe is making a noise at the join to the manifold so I'll have a go at that when it's a little warmer outside. Everything is leaking more now because it's cold, too. Can anybody say blowby? Backing the car up out of a space always has a small cloud of smoke when it's just been started up. All part of the charm (!). Phil

Are people over there generally more appreciative of the classics (especially Americana) would you say, only back here it seemed less so the last time I drove anything 'old', although that was some years back now?

In general, yes. A lot of people are genuinely surprised and pleased by the fact it's an old vehicle and wasn't simply scrapped when it had reached the end of it's popularity/service life/expectations. Doesn't end at cars- anything that's reached "antique" status, that is, over about 35 years old often causes intrigue and curiosity. Often it is met with enthusiasm. It's quite different from the UK, people there appreciate a bit of history. There, it's always been "old hat", in my experience. Phil

Woo. Got to the end of the street this afternoon, put on my turn signal and bok, out goes the dash, on comes the GEN light. Fail Dug about, popped the fuse that the indicators/dash/alternator voltage reference/reverse (basically everything ignition switched barring the ignition itself which comes off a separate terminal on the ignition barrel) ceased to work. Replaced fuse, everything's back good again. Took a look at the old one. Aha. I had twisted it trying to take it out last time by looks of it, that weakened it and it went pop. Back up and running again. Phil

Went for a run tonight to pick up some supplies to repair a water leak at mother in law's house. Had a bit of time to burn so carried on for a drive.
Thought about stopping to take a picture but the gnats were real bad, so that got filed under "hell no".
Slightly spirited driving saw a calculated 7mpg which is a new best for me.

Blimey something that makes my Range rover look reasonable!
My 18 year old son drives the Morris minor most days, over the last year more people seem to react positively than they used too, or perhaps it's just that a lot of the dick heads are working from home.... my nephews 21 year old fiesta driving mates are very enthusiastic about the Lotus too, there is some hope for the future!

Phil Guess that’s US gallons? I almost managed single figures (11 mpg) in my G Wagen once.

Slightly less fun to be filling up all the time, I own 2 vehicles that are both really very easy to get to do single digits economy. At least one of those it is possible to drive gently and get 30+ whereas the other doesn't ever top 15 or so. Phil

I remember, once, after a day or two of hooning around Dartmoor when my Land-Rover was 2.25 petrol powered, refilling the ten gallon tank after 92 miles... the diesel conversion happened a few weeks later. 🤣🤣

My wife been driving this one, 6.4 litre Dodge. I can get better fuel economy out of the Dodge than the Jeep simply because the 6.4 is so understressed on the highway. (Plus it cuts itself back to a 3.2 litre V4 under light throttle). Phil

Love the work on the Chieftain. I'd take 16.5mpg/us in the charger all day long, it's nigh on 20mpg in proper measurements.
