Wonderful 1985 Renault 11 GTL Phase 1 in lovely condition, just 67000 miles.
Much reluctant sale of my Renault 11 modern classic car, only due to buying a Ford Sierra!
I purchased this car from a dedicated Renault collector whose passion and knowledge of Renaults is second to none. His collection of classic Renaults is amazing and this car was no exception, but he already has a super rare Renault 11 Electronic so I was lucky enough to find this one and bought it without hesitation. It is the best one I looked at by far.
Prior to me buying the car, it had recently had four quality Michelin Energy Tyres, full overhaul of Weber carburettor, complete genuine Renault exhaust system, genuine Renault front discs and pads, genuine Renault wipers, full service and coolant flush using genuine Renault service items and coolant. In addition, the car also had new rear shock absorbers, tailgate struts. Since I purchased the car it has been a joy to own and drive, the only replacement part needed being a clutch pedal as the ratchet/quadrant had worn – for this I managed to find a genuine unused NOS Renault part and it is now perfect.
As a result, the car performs brilliantly and is huge fun to drive. The reliable 1.4 engine is very lively and being 5-speed it sits on the motorway at 70mph easily. It starts first time on the manual choke and runs perfectly. The gear change is superb and the car has no issues with braking, suspension, knocks or undue noises. I have used the car daily in the spring/summer and on several long journeys, all completely reliable and great fun. I would not hesitate driving this car to the other side of the country!
Absolutely everything works perfectly including all lights, electrics, wipers, and the gauges. The oil level gauge even works and the temperature gauge sits in the middle when warm, even in traffic on a hot day.
Bodywork wise, the Grenada Metallic paintwork looks great and polishes up very well. There are some light signs of age of course but only minor cosmetic marks. The panels and are very good and the underside is amazingly well preserved. It really does look great and gets a lot of attention. All door shuts, boot floor and common vulnerable areas are immaculate. Every glass pane is etched with the registration mark. Four Renault mudflaps remain fitted.
The interior is typically 1980’s French, quirky and supremely comfortable! The Sand Tweed interior is clean and there are no holes or tears, same with the carpet which has genuine Renault over mats. All the trim is fully intact and undamaged, although there is evidence of some fading from sunlight. This never bothered me at all, the car is showing its years with pride. The dashboard and switchgear are perfect. Renault buffs will notice the leather steering wheel from a higher model Electronic, but I also have the original, I just prefer the leather one.
The engine bay is clean and free from leaks. It is also totally original and still has the factory plates and stickers clearly intact, as does the boot area.
There are two sets of keys with the car is the original Renault wallet with service book, handbooks and guides. The PDI check sheet has been kept and there is a file of invoices and previous MOT’s.
MOT until Sept 2019 with no advisories. Whilst on the ramp I took the opportunity and have a good inspection underneath and confirmed it is incredible underneath with all brakes lines and consumables in excellent order.
Cheap tax bracket being a 1.4 and £86 per year on classic insurance, brilliantly cheap to own.
These cars are very rare now but I have found this one a sheer joy to own and drive and very easy to run and maintain. Nothing needs to be done other than get in it and enjoy!
Viewing and drive most welcome. Car is in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.
