Nice one AK. We didn´t have that sort of thing at our school.
The only time you saw the police was when they came to collect someone or when they tried to catch us on Preston docks....!.

Haha, quality. I remember the Feds visiting us at school. They used to show us safety films about not playing on the railway (that one where the lad gets fried trying to retrieve his boots from the OLE). An utterly pointless exercise, seeing as the nearest railway line was a good 6 miles away. I recall being taken to a cop-shop open day, loads of lovely Mk2 Granada's to play in, got to turn the pee-paws on and everything. Don't remember the rozzers having anything small or BL round our way, then again the cuntreeside probably not best for Metro's ;D

Cool pics! I remember a road safety visit we had, a couple of pedal cars and a zebra crossing coloured mat, with some lucky kids (never me ) staging an accident after, ooooh 5 minutes of rehersals. Our school did a visit to the local police station in the days when it was more than 9-5 Oh, step away from the soap box? We had our prints taken, were locked in a cell, that sort of thing. T'was cool, I wonder if they still do it?

Mk2 Granada for us when I was at middle school (so 1983 at the latest).
Also in 1985 Barry Lee came to upper school with an XR4i (in association with Total) and gave us demo's of safety, stopping distances etc. he hooned around going sideways etc on one go, then did the same course round the bus park in a slightly less lurid manner to prove that the second way was quicker.

Ace pictures and I remember those type of police cars. The only times the police came to my school were to arrest people or give the cheekier ones (like my muckers and I) a leg across the playground when we shouted abuse at them at the traffic lights right outside the school. Not big or clever of course but perilously funny at the time.

We didn't have a school police day but a police day in the then nice but now chav infested Walton Park in teh Sale.
The 5 - 0 turned up with a Senator 24V if I remember rightly, it was 1987 \ 88, I'd just started primary school. They showed us the VASCAR and the flashing lights and what it was like to ride in the back if you'd been nicked.
The bloke giving the demo was a colossal gent as well, not to be messed with.

Two reasons: 1) they still had a minimum height restriction (abolished so as not to discriminate against asian applicants)
2) you were probably considerably shorter than you are now.
I seem to remember the Rover SD1s the most. The Jam Sandwich.
Also Escorts, Mini's (in the sticks but not really in London), Allegros, Transit vans, and didn't the traffic cops use XJ6's too?

We had our prints taken, were locked in a cell, that sort of thing. T'was cool, I wonder if they still do it? They still do that round here, usually when they've pulled said youngster out of a stolen car or caught them setting fire to bins We didn't have a school visit but my grandparents took me to an open day at that big station in Nottingham.... they had an SD1 you could sit in and press the buttons, I remember them failing to stop a slightly older kid getting his hands on the PA system fitted to it and swearing rather loudly across the display area.

I remember a school police day around this time when they just brought along two coppers plus a naffin great alsatian dog in a mk2 escort van. All the kids trooped out into the yard and spent a few minutes stroking the nice doggy then we all sat down and watched a demo of the dog do what he was paid for.
One copper slipped away, changed clothes and pretended to be the baddy at the bottom of the yard, the dog handler then let the alsatian lose. The mutt flew across the yard, grabbed the other guy by the arm and just wrestled him to the ground and kept him locked in his jaws. I remember some kids crying and just being amazed how nasty police dogs could be. The copper then came back and showed how padded up he was (with a thick leather sleeve and a towel underneath)To avoid any injury. To this day the sight of a plod alsatian brings me out in a cold sweat.
