Recently bought this old 1986 944 Lux. It had been sat in a barn for 8 years, owner was selling cheap as it refused to start and wanted it moved. They admitted they had tried DME and the obvious bits but it would only turn over. It looked pretty solid under the dust so I took the gamble on it. Had not been completely alone in the barn either! The mice had chewed a nice hole in the gear gaiter and was using that as a front door Since I sold my 944s a few years back I’ve thought about getting another but the prices have gone a bit silly so figured this shed was my last chance.

Looking forward to seeing this revived - great cars and best colour, not that I'm biased or anything...
I was going to say check the crank reference sensors and direct you to clarks-garage.com/, but if the mice have visited the rest of the harness too you might have bigger issues!

Wow, that's cleaned up a lot nicer than mine does! Congrats. I need to get the DA out... If you've gone for the cheaper compatible sensor rather than the OEM/bosch one, compare it to the old one before putting it in. Some of them are about 1mm longer than stock, resulting in a bit of a clash with the flywheel if you put them in with the same spacing as the old one. I've seen a couple of posts from people who made the same mistake... It makes a god-awful racket. Thankfully didn't kill the sensor but I carry a spare around. I made up a spacer from some .7mm plastic I had handy which fixed it for me.

Hi Gryphon, no I went Bosch as I was convinced it was the issue and splashed out the £70. Once it had fuel pressure i discovered a fuel hose leak at the tank which was an easy fix, It took a while to get the top end to quiet down and the cooling fan needed a help to get going but it’s all good! No oil or coolant leaks, starts well and drives very nicely. Getting new tyres today!!!!!!! Then on to the mot bay next week. Fingers firmly crossed!

Oh, now that's just lovely - well saved!
There's a chap near us who has a C reg Guards Red one in his front garden. I spoke to him about it as it seemed a shame to leave it there, but a quick look inside showed the weeds & grass growing up through the front floorpans "oh yes, the sills are a bit shot" he said! Poor thing would likely fold in half if you open a door.
