Hi all
Later today I should be starting another camper / day van conversion on a 2011 Renault Trafic.
Its a nice clean and straight van with light use only.
Its going to be similar to my other conversions but with some upgrades plus a few tweaks in the build process to improve the quality and speed up the build.
The ceiling will be made to run side to side instead of front to back, the fridge is going to be a waeco compressor fridge and the seat is from a new supplier and includes head rests and some fancy stitching.
I'm also looking at improving the wiring set up so that there's no visible wiring inside the units.
Target completion date is 28th September.
Cheers - mike

Hi all got a bit done today but finished early as my 8 month old grandson came for lunch and took over. I have removed the bulk head and rear door trims. The inner rear doors will need some paint as they are marked. I have also carried out my usual mods to the wiring loom, removing all the excess wiring and rerouting the loom inside the channel over the rear doors. Tomorrow should see the inner rear doors painted and the old wheel boxes and floor removed. If I can get the paint done tomorrow morning then I may get the rear door windows in tomorrow afternoon. Cheers - mike

Hi all have had a steady day so far. Have removed the old floor and the lining, cleaned everything up and hoovered her out. Getting the floor out was a complete pain as it was held down with a ridiculous amount of screws and adhesive as well. The inner surface of the rear doors was pretty badly marked as the lining was bonded on with panel adhesive plus there was lots of gruft about so I set to and rubbed it all down and repainted as required. This should be the only paintwork needed on this van apart from the drivers sill where the paint has worn away. Off to line the rear door panels with lining carpet and maybe look at fitting the rear door windows if the paint is dry enough. Cheers - mike

Hi all had a bit of a mare this afternoon as my nibbler died. Every 2-3 inches it decided to jam so its going in the bin tomorrow. Anyways got the panel cut out of the nearside rear door so its ready for bonding the window in tomorrow. I should get the new floor cut and ready for fitting tomorrow. I have the old floor to use as a template but the fit was pretty poor, ok for a van but not for a camper so I will need to sort that. The rock and roll bed arrived today and I'm really please with it. Its from a new supplier and an upgrade from the usual one I fit. Cheers - mike

Hi all had a steady morning today as it was cold and wet, not good weather for bonding windows so I set to and covered both the rear door trim panels in lining carpet. The weather improved around 11 so I have bonded in the first window and should get the other side in this afternoon. The rear view camera and front / interior camera arrived today so I may make a start on fitting it later. Cheers - mike

Hi all just finished the second rear door window. I had to cut the hole for this one with my grinder as my nibbler is dead. Its actually quicker with the grinder but then you need to do lots of clean up. That's it on the camper for today as i'm off to the tip. Cheers - mike

Hi all the rear doors are now finished apart from a final clean and fitting the curtains. I should be fitting the new floor and flooring tomorrow. I couldn't get it done today as the van is currently full of scrap waiting to be weighed in. Cheers - mike

Hi all didn't get much done yesterday as I had doctors appointments to attend. Anyways, I got back onto her this morning, the interior has been full stripped and cleaned so is now ready for the build. The first job was to sort out some bits of carpet lining that need to be done before the floor goes down so I have done the side door step, bottom front bulk head and the passenger rear arch. I can now go ahead and cut and fit a new floor and cut and fit the vinyl. Its just started raining outside so not sure I will get this done this afternoon but there are other bits I can get on with. Cheers - mike

How hard is it to get the carpet moulded to the contours of the floor?
When buying this carpet, what is it listed as and can you give a rough idea of cost and perhaps a supplier too please?

Hi there its fairly easy to mould the carpet to the contours of the floor and wheel arch. You need to buy 4 way stretch carpet and the best supplier is T/A upholstery. Good quality and service at a decent price. For a Renault trafic you will spend around £75 on carpet and glue. Cheers - mike

Hi all I had a few hours to kill today as the wife was working so I have cleaned and insulated the sides and made and trial fitted the new ply lining for the side. The walls are insulated with 35mm dacron and lined with 6mm ply. I should be covering the passenger rear panel with lining carpet this afternoon and may get the sliding door panel covered as well. Cheers - mike
