Excellent choice. We had a 1.4 match when my wife (2005) passed her test and we both remember it fondly. It was pretty slow, but solid and reliable.

I had one of these in grey that had been GTi'd inside and out, 225k and it went better than a friend's 8v Gti and did about 45mpg doing it, I'd have another straight away if I found a clean one. Any plans?

Thanks, no plans yet really. It's so original and looked after that I think that I'll keep it stock.

These Tdi Mk3 Golfs will be future classics of that I am sure, So many people have owned or parents have owned these underrated cars in the past, I currently run a mk1 Skoda fabia tdi (pd) and its fantastic little car, I will be keeping an eye on your mk3 😊

Love this. Reminds me so much of old Mk3 GTi in the same colour which was a great car to own and drive. Miss it.

Really regret getting rid of mine 😔 It was a flyer with pump turned up, egr delete and boost pin mod plus it was veg oil friendly.

Pretty much exactly the same as the one I had, but with less rust and less miles. I ripped the heart out of mine to go into my T4 camper.

So, still my daily runner, stil going strong with no issues.
I just replaced the front two shocks which were getting old and soft and it rides and handles perfectly now.
MPG wise its shockingly good. I get 600 miles + to a tank of mainly urban driving and some motorway.

Still in daily use. Best car I’ve owned, it starts on the button and hasn’t let me down yet. She gets serviced annually and doesn’t miss a beat.

So I’ve got a new daily, and this may be up for sale soon as I don’t really have a need for both.

Hi and good morning. I am intreaged to find out the fate of this golf. I've owned two of them over the years. First one I purchased in 1998 - a red GL with 13000 miles from new at the local main dealer for £12500 !! it was 2 years old at the time. We kept it for many years, even stored it for 12 months when my wife passed her test until she had some no claims towards insuring it. Only met a painful end by being written off by my son less than a week after he got his licence ,by which time it had covered over 90000. Second one was a maroon GL,purchased on AutoTrader with 90k on the clock, was supposed to be a doner car with it's engine going into our t25 camper but decided on the way home from Hertfordshire that I couldn't bring myself to do it. So again it stayed with us another 50 thousand miles. Definitely the best car ever and much loved by our family here in Wales.
