Hello to you all...
This is a boring and silly question I know but what oil type should I be using on my 1993 Peugeot 205 diesel?!
I think it should be 10W-40(?) but can any of you good people confirm this or correct me please.
Sorry for the banal question, I really should know this!!!
Thanks in advance.

Hello to you all... This is a boring and silly question I know but what oil type should I be using on my 1993 Peugeot 205 diesel?! Engine oil. Seriousness either a 10 or 15-40 will be pukka depending on miles, if it's high, go for the 15. Fathers 2001 2.5 N/A D in his Relay specs 15-40.

Fairly sure in my apprentice days at a Peugeot dealer, the oil gun had 10w40 in it for most of the range. Then the HDi came out and that was 5w30 I'd be inclined to go for a good quality semi synth 10w40 though

Yup, I used 10W40 in my XU engines and it was fine. That was for a 205 GTi, 306 GTi and a DTurbo .

I believe it’s the second oil viscosity number you want to step up a level on in a worn engine rather than the first - I.e. in this case 10-50 - as the first number is the cold rating.
