Milestones Museum is run by Hampshire County Council and is located on the fringes of Basingstoke - it's significant from the point of view that it is a living history museum and not only contains full scale buildings, roads, streets, workshops, houses etc but it also houses a significant collection of historic vehicles - the most prominent & significant being 'Thornycroft' which built vehicles in Basingstoke from 1896 to 1969 - mainly commercials but some early cars - this is probably the largest museum collection of Thornycrofts in the world - so lets see some pics
Hampshire Fire Service - Dennis Fire Engine
Thornycrofts early car range starts with a veteran 1903 model
Later car models were quite a lot larger
Still with Thornycroft - V12 petrol marinized
Single decker coach under restoration
Plenty of other period makes though including this mid 30's Leyland Titan open top double decker
A pair of Morris 8's - a convertible & a van both in a showroom setting
Austin pick up outside the period pub - that has a licence and is open for trade
Loads of other stuff - Trams
Steam engines
Stationary engines
Period shops of all types including a sweet shop with all the old favourite sweets available to buy - great 40's / 50's period café upstairs - loads of parking - very interactive and loads for the kids to do - well recommended - link below

Now it just so happens that we used our Jowett's for the visit and when we got there it turned out that the Thornycroft Society were having a road run that day (pure coincidence) and they kindly asked if we would park on the rally field within their display (it would have been rude not to have) - so when we returned to the cars after visiting the museum - the vehicles that had done the run were just returning
All sorts had attended the road run
The two Thornycrofts in the road run were in stunning condition
Only one thing left to do after all of this and that was find a suitable venue for a drink & some food
John & Pam (owners of the beige Javelin) was with us for the weekend - John was very much in his element having spent all of his working life in the transport / bus & coach industry - the ladies also enjoyed the day out - my idea of perfect 'Jowetteering'
