Welcome to my sale of an increasingly rare Clan Crusader. The car was first registered in 1973 and is therefore tax exempt. This car originally came with a 875cc Hillman Imp engine and gearbox producing 55 BHP but this has been replaced with an 11,000 mile BMW K1100 engine , which is mated to the fantastic Imp transaxle using the increasingly popular "Clarke Dawson" conversion. The engine looks perfect in the engine bay and suits the Clan particularly well as the original BMW air box can be used ( This isn't easily possible in Imps or Ginettas). Indeed as many of the BMW components have been used as possible to aid reliability and drive-ability, including ECU, wiring, additional radiator etc.
The car now has approx double its original power but the beauty of this conversion is that the BMW engine doesn't upset the fine handling characteristics always associated with the clan. In fact the best compliment I can pay the car is that it drives just like a Clan!!! ( albeit a fast and totally reliable one)
The Clan Crusader was designed by ex lotus engineers as is renowned for superb handling and excellent build quality (far superior to the Ginetta G15 or most Davrians!). The bodywork is excellent, with no crazing in the fibreglass shell and the paintwork is in superb order too. The interior has been re- furbished with new seats, carpets and door trims and the deep dished steering wheel really suits the car. The suspension has been uprated to gaz coilovers and springs and a front disc brake conversion has also been carried out. As a result the Clan looks , goes , stops and handles just as it should.
In response to a few questions I have had , I'd like to make it clear that the BMW engine is mated to the Imp gearbox ( this is where all the money has been spent!) and so reverse gear works as normal unlike most bike engine conversions.
The webasto sunroof is in very good condition and works fine. The car sits on its original 12 inch cosmic alloys and nearly new tyres.
V5 is present and in my name!
Any questions , please ask
