Hi. New here and looking to be an active member. Building up an Dolomite with modern-ish power and a aggressive look. A triumph / Saab/ BMW collection of parts. Once I figure where to host pictures to link to the forum I will start the story......

Day 1 a year ago... Decided to buy a Triumph to build something fast, and reliable, my son has a Triumph Toledo that he passed his driving test in so a quick look on ebay and a purchase made but without the Weller wheels, had no use for those. Infact had no use for much of it mechanically wise. Fast forward to today, Engine and gear box out, back axle to week so that has to go. After some chin rubbing and head scratching decided to make SAAB the supplier of the power unit. After all SAAB and British Leyland joined forced to pay for the design of their slant 4's in the 70's so there is a natural link. Engine would come from the SAAB 9000, unfortunately front wheel drive, but hey so what ... cough..ahum. So found a running doner on bay automatic version so restricted to a poultry 200bhp. Gearbox compliments of BMW E46 M3. Trouble is as soon as M3 is mentioned spare prices go up. Found that the E46 328i shared the same ZF box, same part number, not so widely known so a sensible price paid for it. Styling wise looking for a British Touring Car look of the 75 Dolomites but more aggressive, so deep dish wheels and wide arched are the order of the day. So adaptor plate from a thick piece of mild steel, to connect the engine to the box, spacer required for spigot bearing, and a different sump and it will fit in the big hole where the Triumph lump once was.. More pics and updates to follow as it goes......

I spent ages as a boy trying to persuade my dad to buy a Dolomite Sprint, he bought a Maxi!
Those wheels look epic, I've also got some photos of the touring car Dolomites at Thruxton back in the day, Tony Dron drove one of them.

In for updates, my first car in 1998 was a 1977 1500HL with sprint wheels, maintaining it was beyond my student budget at the time.
IF you're more on mobile than at a PC with the tapatalk app you can upload photos directly from your phone.

Go for the 9-3 inlet manifold. top entry, much easier for rwd conversions.

As a previous owner of a Dolly Sprint, I love this! Definitely following. Seems like more and more of these engine swapped Dollys are appearing now which is definitely a good thing
