Time has come for me to part with my Baur 318is. I've had it about 6 years. It started as a 320 auto. I fitted an M42 engine and gearbox from an E36 of mid nineties vintage, complete with its 5 speed manual gearbox. At the same time it got a high ratio steering rack. It had new sills and rear arches fitted and any other rust I found cut out and replaced. New brakes, new suspension bits, polybushed where possible, then repainted the whole car. I also fitted E30 sports seats. Used all summer the last 3 years and always garaged.
Trouble is, it's losing its garage space so it's time to go. In those 3 years it has let me down a total of 2 times - 1st the accelerator cable broke, and 2nd, the clutch slave went. Driving included a 1000 mile long weekend away 😀
It's not perfect, perfectly good enough to use, but there's room for improvement. I could never get the electronic speedo to work ( so I use a satellite speedo ) and the seats would benefit from a retrim - I dyed the later seats to blend with the rest and the dye went on my wife's trousers !! So it has seat covers on.
I have a large file of receipts for parts fitted, and an even larger stash of spares to go by separate negotiation.
Car as noted is in Glasgow, happy to collect from airport etc, I would have no qualms about its ability to drive anywhere , oh and its economic too. Driven sensibly,something like 40 mpg.
I'm sure there's more to say - I forgot to mention the custom stainless exhaust for example, and its back on the original 13" steel wheels too so it looks entirely standard from the outside
