I bought a pair of tasty reverse rim steel wheels from Dez yesterday. Painted 'em up and got some tyres fitted today. Now, with these wheels the valves are on the inside rim (as they're reversed). I got about half a mile down the road from the tyre place to find that the tyre had gone flat. B*gger. The valves had been contacting the rear calipers, and this had eventually smashed them to bits and let all the air out! The reason I didn't check this sort of thing is because they came off of Dez's car, which is the same. I haven't managed to get in touch with him to find out how he managed to run them... I'm thinking that the rear caliper design might be slightly different, as there were no spacers on his car. I can't fit spacers because the tyres have just enough clearance on the arches now and any further out would cause them to rub. So I'm wondering if there is such a thing as shorter valves? About half the length of standard ones would be ideal! Any other pearls of wisdom gratefully received!

Odd isn't it?! For the 20 minutes they were on the car, they did look the business! ;D The valves I have on are 40mm long. I need them about 20mm long I reckon, perhaps a little shorter so I can fit dust caps. I can only imagine the MB used a different rear caliper design. It's a puzzler that's for sure! On the plus side, I've got 175/80 tyres on the front and there's no rubbing now!

No worries, thanks for looking Dez I think I'll have to brave Halfrauds tomorrow. I'm quite keen to get them on me car as I was well pleased with them! I'll put pics up when all is well. Another good thing to come out of this: it was a practical experiment on whether my scrub line is OK, and it was. Although I don't think the front would fair so well! ;D

I thought about re-drilling, but I think the hole size would have to be bang on. Plus, I need them ready for the PPC shoot at the end of the week and I don't think I'll get time to do them. Bike ones (TR412) are shorter - Dez posted a link to some on eBay. I think they are 22mm long, which might just clear the calipers, but it'd still be tight. I've rang around loads of car places and nobody does flush-fit ones Not even Halfrauds! I could chance ordering some off ebay but I risk not getting them in time for Friday, let alone fitted. I'll keep trying as some of the places I've called are closed today.

Interesting, those would do the trick I reckon. I've gone for some 22mm short valves, which work (just!), but they would make life easier still.

I just found them randomly the other day. I thought they were pretty cool. I wondered if you could fit them so they poke back through the wheel face on a reversed rim.
I would never have considered the valves fouling on the brake caliper either. Bummer! I would have been thinking WFF?? too.
